Were you able to confirm that they have the records over the phone? Or did you have to send a letter?
My paternal grandmother was adopted (1917) by a family who lived just south of the city (near where the UIC campus is today) and so I suspect that she may have come from the St. Joseph's home.
I have no problems getting notarized documents (my father is still alive, and my sister is an attorney) but it would be great if they could tell if over the phone if I should bother sending them a formal request.

Otherwise.. should I send them a stamped self-addressed envelope? What kind of information should I include with my request? I have no idea who her birth parents were - that's what I'm trying to find out (if they could at least give me the name and age of her mother that would be a place to start).
