Need help Jess Cosby in Orphanage in Henderson

I am looking for my grandfather's birth parents.
On his draft registration he said he was born Nov 5, 1888 in Henderson, Kentucky. Name Jess/Jesse/Jessie Cosby...
He said he was in an orphanage and about 6 or 7 yrs old went to a farmer and his wife. His birth year maybe 1886-1889. So he may have been adopted out about 1892- 1895.
I thought I found him in the 1900 census in Vanderburgh Indiana with a John Riese/Reise or Reese, unsure if it is him. Would anyone be willing to lookup records of adoptions at that time and in Henderson Ky. I just can't get past this brickwall. Please Help.. Thank you
KCH Kentucky Childrens Home, Lyndon, KY

Is there a board or chat room for the Kentucky Children's home in Lyndon, Ky? My mother was there sometime in the ninteen thirties and was talking about it. She was from Grant County, Kentucky and came to Lyndon at about the age of ten just after the death of her father. She was in two or three different foster homes before she was placed for the last time. She was never adopted. In the mid-thirites she was placed in a home with a couple who had a natural daughter, Mary Elizabeth Judd, who lived in Green County, Ky in Greensburg. Am looking for any information on this Childrens Home (KCH) in Lyndon, or the Judd Family. My mother is 84 years old and I think this would be a nice surprise for her.

No formal adoption, possibly at KY Children's Home in Louisville, KY

Can anyone give me any ideas where to go from here. I wrote to Frankfort, KY. I received a letter back stating they could not find an adoption record for my grandmother. She was born June 22, 1928. Evidently, there was no formal adoption. I don't have much to go on. My grandmother's adopted mother, Delia (Reynolds) Walker told her once that she came from a Christian Children's Home in Louisville, KY. The Walkers lived in Nicholasville, Jessamine County, Kentucky all their lives. My grandmother's name is Wavyleen. Family members were asked about where Wavyleen came from and nobody seems to know. One of Wavyleen's aunts told her that the Walkers were gone all day when they went to get her. Elick Walker's sister told Wavyleen's sister-in-law once that her mother's name was Mattie Sparks. Elick and Delia Walker took the secret to their graves with them. There may have been a reason why they didn't want to talk about it. If anyone can give me direction, I would be very thankful. I sure would like to know where I come from.

Thanks in advance.

Angie

My great great grandfather, Andrew Thompson was born in Pattier (Panther?) KY in 1803. His father was probably John Thompson. In about 1815 Andrew was orphaned when a fire distroyed the family and home. Andrew and 1 or 2 older sibs survived. He probably spent some time in an orphanage at some point in KY. Records indicate that Andrew went to Jefferson Co KY and then Floyd Co IN, then Lawrence Co IN then Jackson Co IN. I am seeking information on other family members and where he actually was born. He was apprencticed as a blacksmith in Lousiville prior to 1820. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Help @ orphanages??

I have a William Stump b. @ 1884, he lived in Spencer, Washington counties areas. Family has said he was an orphan and lived with who ever he could, I have found maybe him in census under a Christina Stump , she has no spouse listed. So I am wondering maybe he was illegitimate? And it was some big family scandal? His last living daughter says he never spoke of any relatives. So no one knows anything? Where would I begin to look, what orphanages existed in the areas of Spencer Bullitt, Washington, Nelson and so on counties of Kentucky in the late 1800's? Is there a way to find out if he was of illegitimate birth, was there any homes for the mothers in that time and areas? Any help would be appreciated..

Thank You

Everett Cleo Campbell

I am searching for information about an adoption in 1908. This is the information I found in my grandfather's address book. This is what he had down. (Spelling is not right). (Old Kentucky Home) Oporaph (Orphanage) Louisville KY 1-502-555-1212 (inform). Than had Prote or Prate Children's home 2125 Gollesonet La. Louisville, KY (451-5177). I did a phone number search and found that it was now named Brooklawn Youth Services 2125 Goldsmith Lane, Louisville, Ky 40218, phone # 502-451-5177. He has the name Everett Cleo Campbell (his birth name) and that Will or William and Nora Michael adopted him. He was born Nov. 21, 1908 and died May 18, 1968 at age 59. Does anyone know how I can get the information from the Orphanage or can help me find out who is birth parents are. Don't have any clue who they might be. I would love to have information/pictures of the Orphanage. Thanks and hope someone can help. I have hit a brick wall. Thanks again, Michelle.

I am looking for info on this facility. I found a possible lead that my grandmother might have been a ward there (I think she was listed 14 yrs old on the 1930 census). I have heard rumors that it burnt down? Is there any way to access info of where the children went or came from, pictures, etc that any one can share? It would be greatly appreciated and hope to share any info I can. Thanks in advance

Patrick Henry Green 11 and William Green 9 were placed in
St Thomas Orphanage in 1871. The register states they had
a younger brother and sister in Hickman, KY. Since their mother was dead my guess is that these younger children were adopted. Father was Patrick; mother Margaret, both
b. Ireland (1830, 1835)

My 83 year old mother remembers being in an orphanage in London, KY beginning in 1926 and staying there for a couple of years. Is there a record in Laurel County or the State of Kentucky of these Orphanages and their charges? I found one of her brothers after a 73 year separation. 3 of her siblings are still missing. Will appreciate any help.
We have looked everywhere to try to find this place. We do not know if it is still there, renamed or torn down . Our Uncle was sent there when he was very young. He had epilpsy. And had died there.
Masonic Widows and Orphans Home

My grandmother and her four brothers were residents in the Masonic Widows and Orphans Home in Ashland, KY from 1907-1910. Her mother was married in 1900 to a Baptist preacher who died only 6 years later at the age of 32, from consumption (tb). In that time she gave birth to a single and two sets of twins!! Her dear mother had to place the children in the Masonic Home while she herself taught in a country school to keep body and soul together. She visited her children every week for 3 years and brought them up as good Christians who would have made their Papa proud. In 1910 she was finally able to take her children all back to live with her. My grandmother remembers seeing Halley's comet when it made its appearance in 1910!
A few years later my ggrandma married for the second time and had two more children. She and her new husband moved from KY to IN where they owned a general store until the mid 30's.
Is this unusual, for a parent to have to put children temporarily in an orphanage, then come back and 'redeem' them? I always figured it was sort of a common practice way back then....but I've never heard of anyone else doing this.

My grandfather, William Thomas Hines, and his
brothers, Jacob Lee Hines, Albert S.
