Surnames: Morales
Hi, good to hear from you! I have been in contact with other Morales descendents and they think Zachary either survived a shipwreck or was sent to New Orleans on a train (possibly an Orphan train). Indeed, Zachary apparently never knew his parents or where they were from. One person thinks his mother may have been named Donovan and his dad, a Morales. If he did teach Spanish, he must have been well educated. He may have lived in a monastery in New Orleans. His wife says the name of the residence was La Fleur. But, I have not been able to find anything by that name. He did not get adopted and left New Orleans for Caldwell, KS when he was a young man. Caldwell was as wild as the west ever became so he must have been eager for excitement.

Anyway, this week Jim Hartnett (one of Zachary's grandsons) will be here if you want me to ask him any questions. He is 90 years old and is a son of Alva (Morales) Hartnett.
