Tracking down a "Fury" from Orleans area 1838-1840

I've been trying to track down my first ancestor to be born in the US around this time. Stories/facts that have been passed down have turned out to be mostly accurate once I began researching on Ancestry. Apparently (Richard) Patrick Fury was born in Louisiana, most like New Orleans, around the time of 1838. He apparently was orphaned and the parents were from Ireland. Patrick Fury migrated up to Kentucky where he shows up on the 1860 census and settles in the area for 50 years. I've run into a dead end trying to track this down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
