The orphanage in Twin Valley was called The Wild Rice Children's Home, named for a river. It was conducted by the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America, which also conducted an institution in Lake Park.

There is one paragraph on each institution on pages 170 and 165 of the out-of-print book titled, Adoption Agencies, Orphanages and Maternity Homes--An Historical Directory. The WorldCat data base lists 147 libraries in the U.S. (including 4 in Minnesota) that have copies of the Directory.
