info on orphanages in MO in early 1900's

My grandmother and her 4 siblings were supposedly orphaned for a time in MO until the oldest girl was able to take care of the rest of her siblings. I'm uncertain where in MO - possibly Springfield area? Last name for all 5 kids was GRAHAM (4 girls 1 boy all born between 1899 and 1912, assuming they must have been orphaned between 1912 and 1915-17) not sure if all 5 were in the same home together or not. any info appreciated.

orphanage in Jackson County, MO in early 1900's

I am looking for information on Myrtle Blanche Adams, daughter of Joseph Arthur Adams and Malissa Elisha Hall. They were living in Independence, MO in the early 1900's. My great-grandmother, Malissa Elisha Adams died about 1908. The two sons, Johnny Lee and Wallace Luellan stayed with their dad. The daughters, Jerusia Clara, Gertie May, and Ivy Hazel went to live with relatives. My grandfather said that no one would take Myrtle Blanche (would have been about 4 yrs. old.) as there was something wrong with her. She was put in a "home" and died about 2 yrs. later at the age of 6. I am trying to find out the name of the institution if possible and where it was located in the Independence or Jackson County area.

"Orphange" in Catholic Church

I have a HUGE brick wall that I will welcome any assistance with. I have an uncle that I've never met that was born out of wedlock between the years of 1954-57 to Edythe Russell. I was told that he was born in Jackson County, MO with the name of Richard Simon. He was given to an "orphanage" in a Catholic church near Martin City. He was later adopted by my father's step-father through the church. His name was changed to Richard Rodriguez. Because it was through the church, the records are sealed. My father's step-father is dead and the relationship between my father and his mother is strained (to say the least!). I'd like to find the church, orphanage, records, or something that will help me find Richard Rodriguez.

Thank you!!!!

Chillicothe ?Indian? Orphanage

I have noticed an older posting looking for information about an orphanage either in Chillicothe or just with that name. I would appreciate any information about where or not it did exist; I too have been told it burned down in the late 1890's. I am looking for my G.Grandmother, Martha Frankum, who was in that orphanage with 4 or possibly 5 siblings. My grandmother had heard that the orphanage was for native americans, so I suppose that it is possible it was a boarding school, although all of the children were orphaned. I would appeciate any information about the orphanage. Debbie at teach4life@aol.com

I am trying to gather information on Elizabeth and Melinda (Meanda) Adkins. They were sent to an orphanage near Westpot Mo. around 1830-40. from Jackson Co. I believe it was the Shawnee Baptist Mission orphanage in what is now Shawnee Mission, Ks. But I cannot find any records. Both were later married and had families, but I can not find anything after thier fathers death in 1833 and the time they left the orphanage. Except that the orphanage was for both white and indian children and they learned skills needed for farming and homesteading.Thier mother remarried and disappeared. Thier brother David, my gggrandfather was not sent, he was raised in the Platte county area. I don't know by who. Possibly his mother and new husband. No name for them.

My mother, Loraine Burrichter was in several (or perhaps only one) orphanages in the early 1900s (about 1915-1920) in the St. Louis, Mo. area. A few years before she died (in 1999) in the advanced stages of Alzheimers disease, she occasionally made reference to "Bonnytown" or perhaps "Bonnietown". My thinking is that this was a possible reference to a orphanage in the the St.Louis area maybe by the name of St. Bonaventure. Does any of this ring a ball with anyone?

Her brothers were Tom, Charles and Irwin Burrichter at the same orphanage. Her father m and married a widow, Sarah Palku who had a daughter, Anna in the same orphanage.

Jim McGovern

Hi there.

I am trying to find out about the origins of my grandfather, John Edward WRIGHT, who was an orphan. I have very little information to go by, except that he left the orphanage when he was young, and that the orphanage burned down along with the family records.

How would I go about looking for an orphanage that burned down, sometime after 1915 (his supposed birth year).

Though he made up his information when he applied for social security, he did say he was from St. Louis, Missouri. I suspect he either came from that area, or at least spent significant time there.

Dawn Del Guercio nee Murphy
New Jersey

The kids might have been part Indian. They may or may not have gone by the name Ferguson, but by their early 20s, at least, they were using the Lewis name and living in the Pulaski County, MO, area. The Fergusons might have lived in that area, too.

Does anyone have any information to share?

Jayne

I am looking for my great aunts and uncles located in an orphanage I believe near Webb City around 1911 or 1912. there were 6 children all together, but only my grandfather was allowed to stay with his mom, Maud Elenor HAIR PERRY. The children that were taken away were Helen, Grace, Hazel Maud; born around 1908 in Webb City, Irene, and Donovan Carlton; born 1898 in Springfield, IL. Any information would be appreciated. Their father's name was James Ramson Perry, native of NY , and their mother was born 1881 in Springfield, IL.
Thanks again.
I need info on the willows records . I have found out that not all the records were burned in the back yard only the very early records pre 1920's. I was born to a divorced white 21 year old stenographer. She was Christian Scientist and so were my adopted parents (who have been deceased now for 30 years or so). My birth name was Shirley Stevens/Stephens and I am not sure who named me that, my bmom or the nurses. My adopted name is Candace jane Searle. If you or someone you know were at the willows in 1944 they may have known my bmom or have some info. Or if you worked there at the time I was born may be you could help ? Please? Thanks for your time. Candace Brady
jzbickford@psouth.net

I would like to find out the phone number or address to the Orphanage to try to get more info on him. I don't know what county it's in. Only it's in MO. If you can help me just email me at: demiamore_99@yahoo.com
Thank you for your help!
Gloira

My grandfather, William Joseph Green, was born in 1859 possibly is St. Louis. He was raised in a German Protestant Orphans Home from the age of 7 or 8. The home was located on Natural Bridge Ave. in St. Louis. I am interested in learning more about my grandfather's family and why he was put in a orphans home. How do I find records for a home that no longe exists?

Eads/Eade/Eades children - orphans in 1870s - MO

Would any of you have in your family/research records any Eads/Eade/Eades child(ren), especially a Martha Alice Eads, b. 5 Jan. 1868, who attended boarding school or was in an orphanage in MO? I'm also looking for any siblings she may have had. She mentioned a brother/cousin whom she called Mitchel, but we don't know if he was in the school with her. She is my gr-grandmother who went to work as a housekeeper for Azariah Thomas Paschall in Benton Co., AR, soon after she got out of the boarding school/orphanage. She apparently didn't have parents and she said she looked for family, but couldn't find them (she was a teenager - 13-16 - when released from the school). Surely, if it was a boarding school that would be receiving payments from her family, it would notify the family that they were releasing her. It also has been suggested that possibly she was released because of non-payment of her tuition. According to what little she was remembered saying about this, she was in a frantic state not knowing where to go or how to get by. Thankfully, one lady assisted her, and gave her room and board. We think she may have been an orphan, but we don't know for sure. We don't know what boarding school/orphanage it was and haven't been able to find any lists of MO boarding schools/orphanages operating in that time frame and don't know how to find their records, if we do find that list since probably most or all of them no longer exist.

Azariah Thomas Paschall was a widower as of 1881, and a single parent to an infant, and he married our Martha Alice Eads on 30 May 1886, in Benton Co., AR (we have a copy of their marriage license). But the mrg. lic. didn't give any info. on her parents or where she was born.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me at: littleowlalp@yahoo.com .

Thank you - Annadella Paschal (my maiden name which I kept)
