Linda, there is an orphanage in Columbus, Lowndes Co, MS which was founded in 1895. The name of the home was called PALMER ORPHANAGE FOR CHILDREN, and is now called PALMER HOME FOR CHILDREN. Check the 1900 cenus for Lowndes Co., MS. It has the listing for all the children. You indicated that Charles was adopted. I do not think that even that early children could be adopted from PALMER. Once they were placed in the home only the parent or whoever placed them there could take them out of the home. Hope this message is of some help to you in your search for your ancestor. Good luck.
