I am eager to find my lost adopted cousin, named Aileen [see variant names in header]; she was in an orphanage in Jackson, Mississippi around 1944 and my aunt Felma Julie ["Pep"] Yarborough and her husband Vincent A. Mattsion were in process of adopting her at that time. Pep's mother Edna Segrue Yarborough also used to travel from their family home in McComb, MS to visit Aileen in the Jackson orphanage. I have several photos of Aileen around ages 5 to 7, some of them notated on the back. One, for example, says "Aileen Foster Alabama Days with Pep and Vince" and Aileen is about 7 or 8 years old in that photo. Others show a younger Aileen in family group shots, and one shows her sitting on a suitcase smiling, with the caption "Aileen going to the orphanage," and, noted on the back, "Aileen 1945." For reasons I do not know, Aileen disappeared from family photos after about 1947. It may be that the adoption was not finalized, although I have one picture of Aileen with my mother's [Pep's sister's] handwriting on the back saying "Aileen Mattison." If you know anything at all about Aileen or Jackson, MS orphanages about this time period, please reply. You may email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
. Thanks very much for any information you can provide.
