I looked over the 1920 census records. Johann (John) Fred Gnuse was the head of the Lutheran Orphanage and Children's Home Finding Society in Fremont. In the 1920 records, there's a single page dedicated to the orphanage. It shows J.F. and Frieda had 4 children, a nurse, a servant, and 24 "wards". Their children were Walderman, 17, Esther, 14, Edmund, 11, and Helen, 7.

This helped me make a link, as J.F. is my great grand uncle.
