Hi Tony, I was very surprised to see a response to my letter 2 yrs. ago. Thank you for writing. I never did find out anything about where my grandmother was. I know she wasn't Catholic though. I still have friends in Bloomfield and Kearny that will remember Sacred Heart Church. I don't recall it now. We live in the area of St. Rose of Lima on Orange St. in Newark. I'll ask them about this. You didn't mention how old you are. I think she was born in 1900. She lived to be in her mid 90's but would never tell anyone about her background if she knew it. She said there was a fire in the orphranage and the records were destroyed. We tend to think she may have been of a mixed race. I've always wondered about that. My grandfather was Italian as were my Mom's dad. I guess this will be one of those mysteries you never get an answer to. She had 11 children and a few where a little dark, otheres were very fair. Who knows, she said she was abandoned and didn't know anything, which may be true. Certainly, in 1900 a mixed race baby would be a problem for her Mom. Anyway I've always been curious. Thanks for writing. Janet
