I have seen a few postings here from my friend Denise who has been working on the Children's Center and the State Home and School project. I am a professor at Rhode Island writing a book about the history of child welfare in the state and have been collecting information on all the state's private and public orphanages, infant asylums, and shelters. These institutions include the Providence Shelter for Colored Children, St Vincent's Infant Asylum, the Home for Friendless Children, the Bristol Chiildren's Home, Mercy Home and School, St. Aloysius, and many many more. I have received some funding to do some oral history interviews with individuals who were former residents or staff or directors of these institutions. I also have some information on these institutions that may be helpful. I don't have access to individual records but I could direct individuals to places that may be helpful.
