Hopefully you can find your answer.
I've talked to some of my cousins (children who had dads bought up in the orphanage) I asked what their dad's ever said about the orphanage. They said they were served lamb everyday for supper.
They HATED lamb to their dying day. They hated the smell of it and the taste of it. It was never allowed to be cooked or served in their adult lives -- or to their family.
They were sent out to play a lot. Probably to deplete their childhood energy. They had to go to church constantly - several times a day. Other than that they didn't talk about those times.
I plan to go back to Milwaukee this July. I'd like to see the property where the orphanage was. Maybe there is an old tree or a landmark that they boys saw or played around.
