KOWALISHEN: Sherle Kowalishen passed away at the age of 59 years at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on January 1, 2013 with complications from diabetes. Sherle was born on November 30, 1953 to William and Anne (Khadiken) at Yorkton. She attended school in Kamsack. She worked for a while at the Wheat Pool in Winnipeg. She then took up raising foster children in Winnipeg. She cared for Trevor and Deidra Bear, aged 3 and 4 years. Later she moved with them to Saskatoon. They were like her own children and called her mom. With Trevor and Deidra on their own, she took in another brother and sister four years ago, Rydel and Jay den, now aged 12 and 10 years. Shirley is predeceased by her mother, Anne in 1962; grandparents, Mike and Laura Khedive and Mike and Anne Kowalishen; uncles, Peter Khedive, John Kowalishen, Peter Kowalishen, Steve Kowalishen an Aunt Stella Krupp. She is survived by her foster children, Trevor, Deidra, Rydel and Jay den; her father, William and step-mother, Jean; sister, Shirley (Terry) of Tramping Lake, SK., half-sister, Karla (Jason) of Calgary, AB; Aunts, Emily Dereniwski and Alice Khedive of Yorkton; nieces, Andrea (Bruce) Klassen (Emily and Ava) of Regina and Jaqualine Holler of Toronto and numerous cousins. A visitation was held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home on January 5. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Kamsack.
