Surnames: Wardley
There is a story in my family that one of my 3x gt grandma's was Jewish. I think I have identified the 2 grannies who this story would be about, but on the face of it there's not much to suggest either of them were Jewish.

One was called Esther Wardley and she was born in Nottingham Uk about 1811. The other was called Alice, born 1816 in Preston Uk, but no surname for her yet.

One family member has suggested that Esther might be the granny, and her family may have changed their surname to 'blend in' better.

Does anyone know how likely that might be? And any advice on searching please?

Many thanks, Sarah
