Hi All

I've been trying for many years to find my grt Grandfather Alexander's birth, which according to censuses took place in Birmingham Warwickshire. Extensive searches of spelling variations of the surname have come up with nothing even tho the siblings born over here were all recorded - Alexander's parents having come here from Russia or Poland.

I've also tried spelling variations of Alexander that I can think of with no luck. So I'm now wondering if Alexander may have been a form of some other first name - I've come across this many times including Alexander's siblings.

So my question is, can anyone tell me if Alexander could be part of another name or if there is a pet form/name, or maybe if another name could sound like Alexander to a Warwickshire clerk if a Russian or Polish person was registering the birth in about 1863 - the rough age date given in censuses.

TIA

Paula
