Perhaps this could be a connection, though the names are likely common. My greatgrandfather's name was Isaac Nathan Goldsmith, born in 1858. His parents were Nathan Goldsmith (1834-1898) and Hannah Van de Kar (1829-1918), both from Holland. They immigrated in 1858 to Boston, Massachusetts. We have no information on their parents or siblings.
Isaac was a cigar manufacturer (Goldsmith & Silver Co.) in Boston in the late 1800s under the brandname MCA. So he was definitely in the tobacco trade. We do not know if his father, Nathan, was also in the trade.
My cousin and I are continuously searching for further information on our Goldsmith family history. Please respond if you think there may be a connection.
