Shafter Woman Succumbs From Food Poisoning
BAKERSFIELD (
Kern Co.), Feb 11. - Mrs. Nadejda Emerald, 55, of
Shafter, died in the
Kern General Hospital late yesterday and two others are reported seriously ill in the hospital as a result of poisoning, presumably from eating home canned meat and vegetables at a dinner in the Emerald home Monday evening.
Mrs. Emerald died soon after reaching the hospital. Her husband,
Alexis Emerald, 60, and
Nick Conovaloff, 27, of
Phoenix, who had been visiting the Emeralds, are reported in serious condition.
Conovaloff's wife, who accompanied him to the hospital, said she and two other guests at the dinner apparently escaped the poisoning. She stayed at her husband's side in the hospital last night.
Authorities are investigating to determine the source of the poisoning.
