question about abbreviation used in a will

I have a will from 1917. On the will, when a justice of the peace signed his name at the bottom, he followed it with an abbreviation. It looks like "vx" to me, but I can't figure out what that would stand for.

I'm hoping someone more familar with wills or law can help me out. I've attached a picture of the letters in question.
