I'm looking for ANY info on a cousin Paul HONORE, b. 30 May 1885 Little Cooley, Athens, Crawford, Pennsylvannia; d. 16 April 1956, Philadelphia, Montgomery, Pennsylvannia. He was born Paul HONOR to Edward Thomas HONOR and Mary Ann WALSH of Port Hope, Durham, Ontario, Canada. The family is originally HONNER from County Laois (Queen's County) in Ireland, but many of the HONNER folk in Canada changed the spelling to HONOR.

Paul was a famous American artist & muralist in the first half of the 20th Century, mostly working out of Michigan & Pennsylvannia some On 01 Feb 1910 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, he married Kate Ethel YORK, b. 27 Sept 1885 Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, Michigan; d. 30 Dec 1956 Philadelphia, Montgomery, PA. I have a bit more on the Yorks.

Can't find anything more & need some help. I've seen Paul as Paul BIDWELL on a couple of online trees. Don't know where that comes from, unless he used an artist's alias when he was first starting out.

You may want to contact an organization in Detroit called the SCARAB CLUB. This is a very old art organization; I know they have some information on your relative Paul Honore; I came across it when I was doing research on an uncle of mine, Arthur Lavinger, who was also an artist in Detroit in the 1920's and 1930's. I also know of an art gallery in Troy, Michigan which may have some of his work. If you e-mail me privately, I can look up the name and address of the gallery for you.

Thanks for your posting. Yes, I know Paul was a very active member of the Scarab Club, even did a mural for it. I have friends at the Scarab Club but didn't think to ask them... but I will. I'll also "e" you about the gallery in Troy.

I find it so strange that, with all the work he did, more people don't know more about him & his life as an artist. Very difficult to find that info, but even more difficult to uncover family history. It's one of those "family secret" things that his granddaughter & I are working on though. As with most family secrets, it may have lost its punch over the years or may still be a sore point with some. Seems he didn't even know the story so I doubt outside sources would.

That all doesn't matter in the long run. Just trying to put it all together & in perspective for the family, and happy to have Paul as one of us.

I, too, am interested in learning more about this artist. I purchased a wonderful abstract watercolor from a private dealer in Philadelphia a few years ago and have wondered about the artist ever since. Clearly this was painted in the 'thirties or 'forties (modernist tradition),
but that's all I know. As my research progresses, I'll pass along whatever else I find.

Update: Paul Honore was not son of Edward T. Honor and Mary Ann Walsh (they were childless when Edward died), but he was the son of Jane (Jennie) Honner. Still looking for info!
