Hi,

My grandfather was named Ovila Beland when he was born. For some reason he changed his name to John Bellanger. Family stories indicate he hated his father and didn't want his last name anymore.

My mother recently told me that my grandmother (his wife) told her that Grampa LEGALLY changed his name shortly AFTER they were married - sometime around 1928. They lived in Massachusetts in the county of Hampden.

WHERE might I find this documentation, if he in fact did do this legally?
