Declaration of Anthony Hansell of Middlesex County, New
Jersey in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress of
the 7th June 1832
State of New Jersey
Middlesex County Jrsy on this twenty sixth day of August
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
thirty three personally appeared before the Judge of the
Inferior Court of Common Pleas in & for the said county
of Middlesex Anthony Hansell who [crossed out] a resident of the
said county & State aforesaid who being duly sworn
according to law in his oath makes the following de:
claration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of
Congress passed June 7th 1832. That he was born
in the year of seventeen hundred & sixty one
as appears from a record of his age now in his possession in
his Bible in the township of South Amboy county & State aforesaid
He lived there when he entered the service during the war
& ever since still lives there. He entered the service
after the death of his brother Joseph in the year 1778
in Capt James Morgans Company & Col. Abrams regiment
as a private and served always as a private
& served in that year under those officers two tours of
a month each along the Jersey Shore below the
mouth of the Raritan & engaged guarding that Shore.
In the year of 1779 he served at least three tours of a
month each under Capt Morgan along the South
Amboy coast engaged in Scouts & patroling the
country. In the year 1780 he served at least three
tours along the Bay Shore under Capt J. Morgan
engaged in guarding & soldiering the defencless families
& property of his fellow citizens from the depredations
of the refugees & tories. In the year 1781 he served
at least two times on the same station guarding
the Jersey coast along Sth Amboy township there & the defencless families
resident along that coast & adjacent country
under the same Captain tt He was actively engaged during
the times specified in the duties set forth he's sure
