Hi,
I would read it as " Gerscovit", and it could be a variant of Gerscovitz/Gershkowich or similar sounding names.

( George Gershwin was originally called Gershowitz, and his family originated near Odessa.)

Have you tried finding the Bernstein family in the 1911 census ?
