I think I deciphered some of it:

He died from a shell wound 2 days after he was hit (about Oct. 23rd) between ///// House and Passchendaele Ridge. His brother Charles (there is another "C. Anderson" in the 5th Pioneers and I think he //// but not in the cook house) who is a man of about 27 in C. Coy. 5th Pioneers in /// cook house, will have all the details. He served with the /// reinforcement and belonged to C. Coy. A very tall man. We called him "Long-un"

he served much more but cannot at this time more
particularly set forth being anxious to come at a

his character they have to refer to James C. Goble a
clergyman resident in his neighborhood and also Stephen
Hall another neighbor of his both of whom can attest
to his character for veracity & their belief as to his
services in the revolution and also to David Hall, and
David Lamberson, Anthony Collins, Frances Letts, and he knows of no other witnesses
Who can attest to his Services. He hearby relinquishes
every claim whatever to a pension or an annuity
except the present & he declares that his name is not
on the pension roll of any agency of any State
Sworn to & Subscribed } Anthony Hansell
the day & year aforesaid }
before the Judge aforesaid }
Peter P. Runyon Judge

Mr James C. Goble a clergyman resident near South
Amboy in the county of Middlesex New Jersey and
Stephen Hall resident in the same vicinity herby certify
that we are well acquainted with Anthony Hansell
who has signed and sworn to the foregoing declaration
that we believe him to be seventy two years of age that
he is reputed & belived in the neighborhood where he
resides to have been a soldier of the revolution &
that we concur in that opinion

David Lamberson and David Hall of the township
of South Amboy county & State aforesaid being
duly sworn according to law on their oaths
say that they are & have been well acquainted

they both concur in saying that said Anthony
Hansell was with them a soldier of the revolution

Note: From this testimony, the witnesses think Anthony Hansell is seventy-two, so that would make his birth year c. 1761, not 1751. I corrected my earlier transcription.

Note: I wasn't sure about the Judge's name, but I looked online and found reference to Peter P. Runyon in New Jersey around that time, so I'm going with that...

One symbol really threw me, but now I believe it is an ampersand (and).

It is often attached to the word following it, which is confusing!

The witnesses look like Patrick Bissett and Nellie Borrie or Bowrie?

Yw! I think I finally have a breakthrough. I found Joseph Sielskis son on the Pennsylvania manifest from Peisern, which is Pyzdry in polish, and all the dates match up. I have given up for months and have picked it up again too. Im learning a lot, very much fun to me!

If anyone is familiar with the family of Joseph Sielski frm Peisern Pyzdry poland, Id love to hear from you for a bit of insight into my family and background.

It took me forever to track the Polish side of my family down. I actually gave up for a while. Use wildcards and alternate spellings and the broadest search parameters you can think of. Don't give up just yet!

Hi, it looks to me Isidor is from Zulowka,went to Greenpoint in Brooklyn NY, to his brother Stanislaw Skrobiato at No. 108
Dayport ctr. Brooklyn NY. The ship is Waslerland from Antwerp Aug. 11 1906. I hope I am of some help.

Wincenta was a Domestic came from Kruglo, came to Long Island NY to brother Winzent M., West Ave. Long Island Canal and Rhode Island.

Teofila was a servant from Grodvno, going to Central Falls, perhaps Rhode Island?, to wife Zofra Kobielski from Grodvno.Came on the Moordam.

Frank was single, a laborer,could read and write, was from Suchowala, is Russian, going to brother in law J. Shabichy or Y. Shabicky in Maspeth Long Island N.Y.

Im very frustrated as I cannot find anything of my gg gr father Joseph Sielski from Pyzdry poland born 1861. I hope you have better luck than I.

Line 299 says that Wincenta is female, 18, single, and from Krugło. The initials in the occupation columns apparently stand for Landmann/Tagelöhner, which means peasant/day laborer.

Given his later occupation, it looks like it might be an ill-informed attempt at "Taxidermist". It certainly appears to start with the letters Tax at any rate.

There are other a's on the page and they are difenitely the same, but it looks like only one a in the name.

I have tried seraching for Isaac, but have not found any connected to George nor any in Licolnshire where George was born.

I can't make sense of the father's first name on the attached portion of a marriage certificate. At first it looked like Grace, but there were 3 other capital G's on the certificate completely different fron the name in question. Also, I couldn't find any male Grace Burtons.

The marriage cetificate is for George Burton in Lincolnshire, England in 1848.

Appreciate any idea anyone has.

I do know that Frank was naturalized. I have his papers. I don't know if his wife was and my grandmother doesn't know. I guess I just have to order her records. I was hoping it would say no actually so I wouldn't have to spend the money on a person im not sure about.

I would not trust Ancestry.com's interpretations. I've seen hundreds, if not thousands, of mistakes before. I would say PA, but it's still pretty ambiguous.

Try ordering his records to be sure.

Hello, could anyone suggest or advise on a the best method of deciphering writing from an old marriage certificate. I've attached a snippet of a marriage certificate of my relation and the profession is marked, I believe, as 'Gun Armourer', this ties in with profession of my other relatives but then there's a words after that I can't work out. It is really hard to say what the initials are. You might try narrowing it down by dating the watches, perhaps taking them to a watch or clock shop. Do they have any inscription, such as the name of the company?

I have just been to St. George's Church to look at the parish records. Unfortunately, the parish record and the marriage certificate were written by the same person to the name looks just as obscure. The writing is slightly different but I still can't decipher what it says. Any help would be appreciated!

we were excited when Lancashire Online Parish Clerks' website posted the name 'Jerens' but it became less likely when we tried to find a jerens johnson in any other searches. Currently this has stopped our progress as all we know of this man is that he was a shopkeeper, potentially in Liverpool (his son stephen Johnson was born in Liverpool in1807) .

The LOPC website has indeed got as its source the micro film which is identical to our paper copy. We have been in contact with the church which is not far from where we live but communication with them has not been great.

We will keep on researching as this takes us into the 1700's all but the last two generations living in tyldesley.
