AdminHistory Peter Walker (Warrington) & Robert Cain & Sons Ltd was registered in September 1921 as a limited liability company to acquire and amalgamate Robert Cain & Sons Ltd, Mersey Brewery, Stanhope Street, Toxteth, and Peter Walker & Sons (Warrington & Burton) Ltd, Dallam Lane Brewery, Dallam Lane, Warrington. The company took over Robert Blezard & Co, Liver Brewery, Scotland Road, Liverpool in 1921 and William Tong & Sons Ltd, Diamond Brewery, Deane Road, Bolton, in 1923.

The Mersey Brewery was sold to Higson's Brewery Ltd in 1923 and brewing was concentrated at Warrington. The company's name changed to Walker Cain Ltd in 1946 and it merged with Joshua Tetley & Son Ltd, Leeds, in 1960, through a holding company, Tetley Walker Ltd.

There were a few books published for different parts of Liverpool the titles "A pub on every corner", I was fascinated with the Toxteth pubs one, one of my great uncles ran a pub in Toxteth Northumberland Street, until he died in 1914. There was a photo of the pub in that book, I was made up to see it, the photo of the pub was also on the inacityliving site, I contacted the owner of the site, and he very kindly send me a copy of the photo in e-mail.
