Annette,
Sorry for the delay in responding, the holidays have kept us busy. Thanks you for the Eneclann suggestion. I've already looked it over and it is a bit pricey. I will compare them to the South Mayo research centre and make a decision. BTW, thank you for all the efforts you put forth here on these boards. You've answered more than a couple of my queries and you need to know that it is certainly appreciated.
Regards,
Chuck Walsh

You can also try Eneclann the genealogy division of Trinity College. No comment on the research center as I haven't used it myself. They will have the parish records that exist for
the area. Years ago I found the expense of the Wicklow
center to be exhorbitant but after visiting Ireland and doing my own research I can understand now how many hours are required for research. I was also fortunate in that the family I was investigating were Church of Ireland. Their parish registers to 1899 are kept in one place, at their Representative Church Library. I do know RC records are all kept in local custody and most gave access to them being copied by local genealogy centers so there were no so many
tourists wanting parish priests doing research. Only a
few Catholic Diocese are doing their own genealogy research.

You can also try looking for journals produced by Heritage
and Museum Societies for gravestone inscriptions.

Annette Code

I am at a 99.99% level of certainty in having located the Walsh family from which my family arose. I am missing some information that I am certain can only be found off-line in Co. Mayo. I am considering engaging a researcher in Mayo, specifically for Lugaphuill, Ballycarra, Mayo. I've considered the South Mayo Family Research Center but wanted to solicit some feedback here before acting.
Thanks for any help that can be given!

Not sure if I thanked you for your information about certification from the BCG. I appreciate it. I've been looking at various certifications, graduate programs, and such, all directly and indirectly related to doing genealogy. One of the routes I was considering was taking the steps towards becoming a professional archivist, librarian, or preservationist. I was looking at the MLS and the MLIS, for instance. I'm just not confident enough in our economy to justify going to grad school to get a degree like that when I can't be certain there will be jobs when I finish.

Dear Ray
Can you be more specific? What locality do you need? There any many researchers who could probably help you but it depends where your missing family members were and what time period you are talking about.
If you can give a little more information I'll be happy to try to help.
Kind regards
Julia

Several yrs ago I used a company called "Galut Genealogical Research Bureau" & they did a wonderful job for me. They traced my family back more than 5 generations. Provided copies of all documents w/translations & copies from books of nobility referencing my family & picture of Coat of Arms. Their rates were very, very reasonable, I would not have traveled to Hungary & Slovakia or located all the info they provided for what they charged. I highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.

There are several church archives, newspaper archives, digital libraries, as well as some regional state archives in (today) Hungary) that you can register with online and research vital and other records on your own - like this one - which is all you need if your ancestors were from southern region that was covered by the Kalocsa diocese :

http://www.rodoslovlje.com/en/forum/vojvodina/kalocsa-roman-...

"Rodoslovlje" Serbian Genealogy Society
http://www.rodoslovlje.com/en

Just a suggestion but I joined up with Hungary Exchange on Facebook. It is a group that helps out anyone looking for help in searching for answers and advice. I have also used the group founder and hired him to do research on my Hungarian ancestors and am very happy with the results. If you are not on Facebook you can also check them out at http://www.HungaryExchange.com

Define "local". 80 years ago, Hungary was a much bigger place and was not split up until after WWI. The civil records are available online (only browseable) at familysearch.org but you will need to be able to narrow it down to a particular village or town.

I don't know if you are still interested but the remains of E. W. Bliss exist at the only surviving Bliss facility in Hastings, MI. Most of the records and all blue print are stored here. We have over 5 million blueprints stored onsite. We also have extensive photos of many of the plants. We have produced history of Bliss in munitions and the 150 anniversary brochure. I do not have record of your great grand father, however there is much of the material that has not been researched or has been distroyed.
