Hi. In the olden days (1880's to be exact), how common was it for the midwife to record the wrong date of birth? My great grandpa was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His birth certificate says January 1, 1887. However, his baptism says December 31, 1886. On every other record I can find years after his birth (1900 census, WWI Draft, Death Certificate) all say December 31. But his son told me that they always celebrated it on the 1st! I'm very confused about it. I personally lean towards December 31. Any opinions ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
