Hi, I am in need of some kind person to do a lookup for me on the NY 1888 Census.
I have found an entry on the IGI index at the LDS site for a Catherine BECK, b. 1 Aug 1868, Manhattan, NYC, NY -listed are parents: William BECK & Kunigunde WAILL. And then on the 1880 Census, I found a William BECK, age 52, from Hesse-Darmstadt & wife: Kunigundo, age 46, Hesse-Darmstadt, alos listed as living in Manhattan, NYC., NY.
I would love to see if thes entries match, and that if they are truly the parents of my great Grandmother Catherine BECK, b. 1868, NYC, NY.

i found william in the 1880 just like you stated. there is only one daughtert listed with him and his wife. her name is Anna who was 14 years old at the time it was taken.

Hi Nita,

Is it all possible that my Great Grandmother could have been away at school at the time the 1880 Census was taken, if a child is not present at the time of the Census taker's visit, are the still listed? Because, the names for both parents match up to those listed on the IGI Index at LDS FamilySearch.

Oh btw, yesterday on the LDS site, I found another record (marriage) listed for the parents, the names were written in the Latin form, as Cunigundes WEYL, and Wilhelmus BECK, married 15 Jan 1859.
Also, is there anyway of getting more info out of the Census??

they are still listed. whoever is at home and gives them the info - i guess you can say it is on them to give out everyones info.

i found a catherine beck age 12 b-1868 living with a Franz Meyer. their neighbor was a charles beck. it states that she was meyer's daughter. there is also another girl with a different last name that is meyer's daughter as well. it says that catherine was born in france as well as both her parents.

i found a catherine age 2 in the 1870's census New York. father is allen and mother is margaret. both born in bavaria p.

i found a cath age 3 in the 1870's census New York. father is henry and mother is margaret. both born i think it says germany.

forgot to mention. i found william in district 304 and catherine in district 212
i also tried the latin spelling and nothing came up

Thanks for your assistance! We can rule out "France", since Catherine was definitely born in NYC, NY. I found on several censuses ranging from the 1900 up until 1930, that her parents were listed as being from Hesse-Dramstadt, or Bavaria. Also, her parents were very wealthy, and lived amongst the New York "Society". So in that case it would rule out an "blue collar" occupation for her father.

I'll check into the Catherine's, age 2, and 3 on the 1870;s census.
