Lampe/Warnke Marriage Record

Hello, hoping someone can locate the marriage record of Christina Lampe and Herman Warnke for me? Other records indicate they were married in Jackson County, Iowa in 1874. Would be grateful if someone could assist. Would love to understand if Herman's specific birth location as well as his parents are listed on the certificate. Thank you!

Help locating Relative

I'm trying to locate the great-niece of Angeline (Svoboda) Hogan that resides in either Minneapolis or St. Paul, MN. Angeline was the daughter of Rudolph F. Svoboda and Francis (Frances) Svoboda. I believe they had at least two other daughters, Rosa, born in 1904 and Francis (Franziska), born in 1905. Angeline was born Apr 7, 1917 and died Nov 16, 2006 in Des Moines, Iowa. Angeline's parents arrived in the U.S. in 1907 along the the sisters listed earlier and possibly had other children. Angeline's last husband was Clarence Edwin Hogan. She was previously married to Stanley Boley. I would appreciate any information on the great-niece you could give.

Greetings. This is all very helpful information and exactly what I needed. I do believe this is the correct Eva Decamp! I looked in the 1920 census for Eva Anderson as well and it matches the 1930 census information exactly. The information about birth year and place of birth for both her parents (David Waterbury was not her real father) matches what I know about her as well. The 1910 census I think is incorrect, recording birthplace information about her that matches her children rather than her. I suppose it happened that census takers made errors? I also used the Sioux City directory for 1900 to see if a "Hans P. Anderson," her husband, lived in Sioux City. He is in the directory, but disappears from it right around the time that Eva Decamp disappears, which makes sense since their first child is born in Minnesota (they must have moved there before moving to North Dakota). I am so happy to have the obit and the picture of the grave! As for Edward, he and another brother, Miner, who are also listed in the Iowa 1885 census I think must have died. Their trail goes cold. Again I am thrilled to have this information!!

Woodbury County Sioux City Eva Decamp

Greetings. I am trying to figure out what happened to Eva Decamp, who is living in Sioux City, Iowa, age 23, in 1900. She is in the 1900 census (as Evelin) with her mother Elizabeth Decamp, and also in the city directory (as Eva) from 1896-1900, but then is no longer in the directory. She is listed as a stenographer in 1900. Her mother continues to be in the directory and remarries in 1902 to David Waterbury, but I've found no trace of Eva past 1900. I'm thinking she may have married or died around 1901, perhaps in Sioux City. If anyone is willing to check this out for me in the Woodbury County records, I'd be appreciative. It is worth noting that in an earlier census her name is spelled "Evaline." I live in New England, so it is hard for me to obtain this information.

Thanks,
Beth Ann

I am looking for an obit for Tanier Jackson Beal who was born 2 Feb 1822 in NC and married Sarah A J Rice 1846 Madison Co IN he died Aug 11, 1885 in Corydon, Wayne Co, Iowa. In the 1880 census for his household it lists a Rachel R Jones as his niece. In the 1870 census his household included Sarah Jones 17 and Virginia F Jones 14 both born in Indiana-this is my gr grandmother and her mother Rachel Beal Jones died in 1859. I am trying to find Rachel Beal Jones family and this looks as though it is her brother. Maybe a history, obit, of family in Iowa might know of a listing for his family. Possibly an obit would list his siblings. Thank You

Thank you very much for the obituary! I appreciate it. No mention of a baby. Perhaps she miscarried and that caused the infection.
I have sent you an invitation to view my tree, which I just uploaded today. Any idea where I can find Owen McCaffrey in the 1860 & 1870 census records? Thanks!
Have a great day!

Reference: Cascade Pioneer-Advertiser, November 1, 1878. Obituary

Died:
McCaffrey, At 11 o'clock Monday morning, Oct 21, of Purpural fever, Bridget A, wife of O. McCaffrey,. age 25 years, 3 months and 28 days.

Mrs. McCaffrey has been a resident of Maquoketa a little over three years and during that time had won a host of friends, by her retiring manner and kind disposition. Mr. McCaffrey came here from Independence, and located with the intention of making this his permanent home, and was arranging matter so that his wife should be comfortable, when death knock at the door and called all that was dear to him on earth, to a home beyond the skies.

She was married at Cascade, Dec 9th, 1873, and nothing had ever crossed her pathway through life to mar the happiness which she rightly deserved.

The house was crowded with friends as the last sad rites were performed, and as the teams filed by escorting the inanimate form of Mrs. McCaffrey to Deep Creek cemetery, hardly a dry eye could be seen.
Father O'Farrell, of Deep Creek Catholic Church officiated.

Mr. McCaffrey has the sympathy of a large circle of friends, Maquoketa Democrat.

Patrick, in the cemetery listing for Assumption Cemetery, Waterford Twp., Clinton Co., Iowa, there is an entry for a "Brogeta McCaffreu" who died on 27 Oct 1878. Considering the errors, the stone may be in bad shape if it still exists. If possible, I would like to see a copy of her obituary. Thanks and Good Luck!
You can find the listing here: http://files.usgwarchives.org/ia/clinton/cemeteries/assum.tx....

I checked the Des Moines Register microfilms but only found death notices for both Oliver & Annabelle and no obituaries. I don't have access to the Des Moines Tribune or other Des Moines newspaper microfilms. I will attach the death notices. Note that there are 2 different ones for Annabelle as the second was a corrected notice.

I don't see their names listed in the Des Moines Public Library Obituary index but I did locate their names as being buried in Glendale Cemetery. The dates could be either their death dates or their burials dates.

Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa:
LYNCH, Annabelle F. ...June 07, 1945
LYNCH, Oliver Edward ...February 15, 1956

When I get the opportunity, I'll check the Des Moines Register microfilms at the local university library and see if they carried any obits for them.

I was able to find a funeral notice that I assume was for Hepsey Ricketts, although it stated it was for Mrs. S. A. Ricketts. I will attach it here. If there was any kind of obituary, it may have been on page one or two of the Friday, May 22, 1914 issue but those two pages were damaged and mostly missing in the microfilm. Unusual that nothing appeared until the 24th for her. No microfilms for me to check at the local university for Des Moines from July 1888 through all of 1890. June through December 1891 microfilms are there but then all of 1892 through 1894 are missing. Also, one correction in an earlier post where I mentioned James H. DEAN, Jr. which should have been James H. Finch, Jr.

You can email me at: stevejensen@cfu.net
and I can tell you where to download that book. Its easier to zoom in and read if you download the whole book. It is about 55 MB in size but you can always delete it after you get the information. I can explain more about it in an email. There is also a lawyer names Daniel Finch but I don't think he is related to your family but I'll leave that up to you. I'll look to see if there is any newspaper article for Hepsey Ann Ricketts tomorrow in the microfilms available to me.

So I figured out that the Mr. Finch in the books you mention is one in the same as my Mr. Finch who married Orrena. Is there any way I can obtain those mentions? And also, I have the Des Moines Tribune article for Hepsey Ann Ricketts' obituary, but would you mind checking in the Register to see if it says anything?

b. 19 Jun 1830
m. 15 Jan 1852
d. 21 May 1914

Thanks much!

That's very interesting. I'll let you know...I need to organize my info on Orrena, Warren Edward, and Benjamin and then I can find that stuff out. My Great Great grand father was their brother Elmer, so that's where most of the research has lied so far...just now getting to the others in hopes of contacting other descendants. I know you said you weren't able to access the 1890 records, but I'm adding another request to my search:

Rezin Ricketts (son of Joshua Ricketts and Sarah Taylor)
b 14 May 1825 Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio
m. 15 Jan 1852 to Hepsy Ann Riggs in Fountain, Indiana
d. 27 May 1890 Des Moines, Polk, Iowa

He is Orrena, Elmer, Warren, and Benjamin's father.

Thanks again for all your help Genalogist67!

Happy to be of some help to you. There was a James H. Finch who married a Sarah Dean, who had a son named James H. Dean, Jr. Would that be the same Jr. that married Orrena Ricketts? If so, perhaps you are already familiar with the biography in the book titled "Portrait and Biographical Album of Polk County Iowa" (1890), pages 162 and 163. It mentions that James H. Finch (Sr) and Sarah had 7 children and Sarah died February 9, 1890, etc. James H. Finch's (Sr) father was Isaac Finch. James H. Finch is also mentioned several times in another biography in the book for an Abram Stuart Dean.

There is supposed to be an obit for Stansbury Riggs in the Tribune but I don't have access to those films. I was unable to check for any obit/death notice on Benjamin Ricketts as the May 1890 microfilms are not available at the local university.

I'm a couple hours away from Des Moines myself so rarely get down there. Unless your local library might be able to get a loan of the microfilm. The library in the State Historical Building in Des Moines has many of the newspapers on microfilm but I'm not sure if they will loan them to another library. The university library in town here only carries some of the Des Moines Register films. Sometimes the Register carries an obit that appeared in the Tribune but not the case for Mrs. Finch.

I checked the Des Moines Register microfilms that I have access to but could only find a death notice for Mrs. Orrena Finch. There is supposed to be an obituary for her in the Des Moines Tribune newspaper from Januray 16, 1934, section A, page 6, column 7 but I do not have access to Tribune microfilms. According to the Des Moines Public Library, there is supposed to be an obituary for Stansbury Riggs in the Des Moines Tribune on September 27, 1910, page 2, column 5. That date conflicts with the one that you gave however.

Or are her parent's name extrapolated from somewhere else? Please help... (I'm trying to be careful because I even see 2 Maggie Vanzants in IA with different husband and children's names.
Re: Charles Frederick Fisher

Gill: Since Charles was a member of the Knights of Pythias and was a member of the Modern Woodsmen, I believe since they are national organizations, they would have a registry of all their members living and deceased. In our travels through some of this nations cemeteries, we have seen headstones with the Pythias logo and the Woodsmen logo on them, so maybe they are like the Masons and keep track of everyone. You might check the Iowa State chapter of each and see what you can find out. I also think Iowa is a pretty open state when it comes to records, you might be able to get a death certificate from them if your uncle died in Iowa. You have his wife's name which would be on the death certificate too as a spouse. Good luck.

Council Bluffs marriage

I found an index/transcript of a Council Bluffs marriage but I was wondering if someone can get a copy from a film at the library. The marriage took place 13 Feb 1899 between Clinton R Kelley and Anna Smith. The index I'm looking at may have possible errors which would answer my confusion. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Peggy
