Chicago Divorce 1890-1910

My great grandmother states in the 1900 Census for Cook County, Ill ward 22 that she is divorced. In the next census 1910 ward 26 Chicago, she states she is a widow. Where can I find out if she did indeed get a divorce or was this a sham to throw off why she was alone with seven children.

Her name: Augusta Sophia Lindenau born Sweden 4 May 1851.
His name: August Elias Fredericks or Fredericksson born Sweden 29 Aug 1854. Surname Fredericksson was his Swedish surname, changed to Fredericks when they immigrated in 1881.

Evidently they married in Sweden but I haven't obtained their marriage certificate yet.

Children:Linnea born in Sweden
August Alfred born in Sweden
Charles F born in Sweden 1881
Bernard born in Illinois 1884
Elsie born in Illinois
William born in Illinois
Frederick born in Illinois.

Augusta's parents: Lars E. Lindenau and Johanna Andersdotter
August's Parents: Fredric Larsson and Christina M. Jansdotter

Any help on this possible divorce would be extremely appreciated.

In John O. Vermillion's pension papers for the civil war. He says he was in Charity Hospital in Chicago in 1874 for small pox. He also said he was working on the docks and fishing for the market. I assume that implied he worked on a ship?
He was born in Va in 1845, was raised in Ohio. He was in Delavan, Ill prior to Chicago. Would any records exist of this ? I am trying to locate him in the 1870c. Is there any directories that would show if he was there?

Is there anyone in or around the Danville, Il. area that could research a death notice in the local paper; a marriage license & a possible divorce document or death certificate?

I have tried for two solid years, corresponding with locals, such as the owners of a cemetery, and have gotten nowhere. The individual I am interested in had a short life span - mostly in Danville, but does not show up on any of the local or state databases!! Can the information been transposed or misspelled during the transsfer to their computer systems???

Thank you.
Approx 1899 in Illinois.
His father was BF Craighead and it seems as though that's where I get taken into several directions. I thought his father was William Thomas Craighead married to Josephine Dunn, but from what I can find on them, it says they were black, but I am white, my grandfather was white and my great- grandfather is listed as white, so I'm thinking his parents were probably both white as well... Any help finding the correct info would be great. Thanks!

I am trying to find names of parents for both/either Theodore E. Rietesel (B.May 22, 1913 in Cook, Illinois) and Clare Louise Youngs (born 1927 in Illinois) Clare was the wife of Theodore. Theodore's father's name may have been spelled Rietzel. I know there was a change in spelling sometime around immigration, just not sure which generation.

These were my grandparents, and since I have no contact with my birth father, I'm having trouble finding more info.

Any help with these names is appreciated.
Best bet is to contact the Sexton of the cemetery. Bruce Kennedy at bruce.kennedy@ci.waukegan.il.us or call him at 847-599-2576 as he has all the burial records for this cemetery. This cemetery is maintained by the City of Waukegan. Hope this will help you on your search.

I went to the Waukegan courthouse today, Recorder of Deeds, to see if they have any record of a Louko purchasing a lot in Oakwood Cemetery. I did not find such, but in the list of Grantors I found that "The Finlander People" had purchased from the City of Waukegan, lot 25, block 2. Also, "The Brotherhood of Finland" had purchased lot 30, block number P. Does anyone have a listing for these particular lots which would identify those actually buried there?

I did a search on the Waukegan Library site for the names but they do not show them buried there, but then this database is not a complete one. The libraries around here do have cemetery books with names of those buried there and I can stop by sometime next week and look it up to see if they are there. I have photographed the headstones of almost 75% of this cemetery and I have not seen that name so far, but like you stated, they may be unmarked. I can let you know what I find out. You can email me off board at findingthepast at comcast . net if you would like.

February 1920 tragedy?

My wife's father relates that an Uncle of his named Charles VanConia (VanConey, VanCony, VanCona) moved to Illinois from his birth stae of Kentucky and married a woman born in Illinois. He also srelated that sometime in February 1920 Charles Van conia and his entire family died (or were killed), but the circumstances of death are not remembered.
It is possible/proable that Charles Van conai settle in Long Point, Livingston county, Illinois and married Omas Patterson. The reason for this speculation is that i found a death certificate for a "John Franklin Van Cona" who was born, died, and buried in Long Point on 17 Mar. 1817. His parents were shown as "Charles Van Cona" and Omas Patterson.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Don Hayworth
