I am pretty sure that there was no such thing as a plantation anywhere in Ireland or elsewhere in the British Isles. We had farms, holdings or estates. The word plantation has been used, but I think more in modern times, but only in the sense of a relatively small group/area of trees usually planted for commercial purposes. Plantation is a very colonial word - India, tea, Malaysia, rubber.
