Ok...

I have the birth of the person I'm looking for. She was born and registered in 1960. The Mother's maiden name (Betts) was given as one name and then there was another name..I understand this, the Mother was unmarried and the other name was that (possibly) of the father (Hurley).

The confusion lies in another entry THREE years later for the same girl (it's definitely the same child). The entry is in the same quarter as the marriage of her Mother and her (new) husband (Hurley). Yet the entry, this time, has the Mother's maiden name as either Betts or Moore. Could it be that the Father's name was always Moore but this wasn't stated in 1960 yet when Mother (Betts) and Hurley married in 1963, there is a re registration because he adopted the child??

Sorry to sound long winded but I just don't understand what's happened and I'm quite experienced at all this.
