Reunion for Stafford/Westmoreland Co. Wiggintons

Hello Everyone,
This is the beginning of a plan to gather information on our WIGGINTON family group to possibly have some type of reunion later "down the road" in 2007-08, with Joe Wigginton as the contact point. Joe lives in Gaithersburg, Maryland and has offered to take a leadership role in working out the logistics of a meeting around Stafford/Westmoreland County. Depending on how much interest we can garner, we could make it either for 2007 or 2008, and I'm sure wherever it would be held, would be off the I-95 corridor.
I don't have all that many names / e-mail address'es, but if we all pull together, we can get enough WIGGINTON kin to fill up an entire County !!

Burbridge lived to be 115 years old, fathered 33 children by two wives, Sara A. White first and then Martha E. McManus. It is said he fathered his last child at the age of 94. The Society is composed of descendants of Col. Thomas Cresap (1694-1787) and his wife Hannah (Johnson) (1705-post-1756). Cresap was one of the county surveyors for Prince Georges Co., a land agent for the Lords Baltimore, and served on the Committee of Safety from his home in what is now Oldtown, Allegany co., Maryland.

Hi Glenn,
I live in Daisy MD and discovered Washington A Peddicord's gravestone in some woods in Daisy MD on land that was probably part of Oakdale plantation. The stone reads his name and birth date as Nov 1815 and death March 2 1882. There are two other stones and possibly more but the area is very overgrown.My daughter and I found two other stones as well. One only had intials W.A.T. Please let me know if you would like the pictures or any more information. I will be calling the Howard County Historical Society tomorrow. Kim

Hello how great to see folks out there looking for the Petticord line. My GGrandmother Mary(Maude) Shaffer, born 1880, was from Hebron, Indiana Co. PA I understand that her mother was a Peddicord. Mary had a brother Leonard, that I think died in a fire. I have no other information on any of them. Mary married Albert Carlsen, he emigrated from Tonstad Norway. Just as our Irish cousins sent out a call for " all Gallaghers and those with Gallagher in their family trees," to gather in Ireland in 2007, we, your American cousins, are asking that you pack your bags once again and join us for our Gallagher Clan Reunion 2008 USA. John/Johannes & Aseneth (GAVER) SCHLEIFFER/SLIFER are my 5th great grandparents. They settled in Burkittsville, Frederick Co., MD, from Bucks Co., PA. He was also an elder of the Broad Run Bretheren Church. Though their headstones are in the cemetery at the Pleasant View Bretheren Church in Burkittsville, they are buried at the Burkittsville/Slifer Cemetery south of Burkittsville. Charles Slifer, their 2nd great grandson & my great grandfather, came to Ogle County, IL with his brother John, from Locust Grove, Washington Co., MD.

I've made several trips to Frederick & Washington Counties for genealogical research, and they have been topics of discussion at the SLIFER reunions. We have a cousin who is a member of the LDS church, and they show each year. It has been agreed, by all, that we would love to extend an invitation to all descendants of Johannes/John SCHLEIFFER/SLIFER.

We have a SLIFER reunion on the 2nd Sunday of June each year, which is June 8th this year. We would like to extend an invitation to all descendants of Johannes SCHLEIFFER/SLIFER. It is held at the Morrison Rockwood State Park in Morrison, IL. There is plenty at the park to keep everyone happy, including a campground.

Incredible! I came across this information while on google.com and had to send in a message. I visited the Grossnickle Church in Frederick County Maryland a few years back after working for years on our family history. All these names I had studied came rushing at me in the huge cemetery in behind the incredible, wonderful Grossnickle Church. There were even Sunday school teachers named Grossnickle. Right near the church was a house with Grossnickle written on the mailbox. I went up the driveway to a man seated in a lawn chair at the top and he said to me, "I don't know who you are, but no doubt you are a Grossnickle!" I asked how he knew and he said I looked like every big-boned, dark haired, dark eyed Grossnickle ever born. When is the next reunion? I would love to be a part. Pg

Ballykilcline was a small townland near the Strokestown Park House, in Roscommon County, Ireland (which now houses the Famine Museum) - it faced some notoriety due to an extended rent strike against the Crown's landlords that began in the 1830's, which was lead by a man named Richard Padian, among others. Mr. Padian and his family, along with the entire population of the townland, were subsequently evicted and paid by the Crown to emigrate to the US in 1846/1847 at the height of the Great Famine. The Padians (along with several other Ballykilcline families) settled in Texas, Maryland, helped to establish St. Joseph's Catholic Church; the Padonia area is so named for Richard Padian to this day. I grew up in Texas Maryland, and began attempting to chronicle the stories of my Scally, Kilroy, Covahey, Croghan, Cummings, Toolan, and Lindsay ancestors (many of whom came from Roscommon County). I became involved with the Ballykilcline Society right about the time that the unrest and emigrations were chronicled in the book, "The End of Hidden Ireland" by Robert Scally, archaeological digs were being conducted by Dr. Charles Orser, and all of these were featured in a Discovery Channel "movie" as part of their "Moments in Time" series. This year's Ballykilcline Society Reunion is being held in "Texas, Maryland", July 19 through 22, 2007, and we are still trying to locate as many descendants of the Irish who settled St. Joseph's Texas, regardless of whether their ancestors were from Ballykilcline, in order to invite them to our reunion, and/or to share their stories of the place that I describe as "The nearest place that wasn't Ireland, nor was it in Texas". We would also like to invite others who might be interested in the events being held next week. For additional information, you can go to http://ballykilcline.com/index.html, where you will also find a pdf with our tentative schedule, as well. I am one of the speakers, although I had hoped my father would be around to tell the stories about growing up along the railroad tracks in Texas. Friday 7/20 ($60) Registration; speaker Dr. Timothy Meagher on Irish-american History; Mary Lee Dunn on her upcoming book about the Ballykilcline immigrants that went to Vermont; John McGrain, Baltimore County Historian will present his collection of photos and stories of early Texas and beyond; Cassie Kilroy Thompson, on family stories from Texas, Maryland; entertainment by Broesler School of Irish Dance, followed by a buffet dinner.

Saturday 7/21 ($55) Morning - tours (by car) of a number of the local sights, including the Baltimore County Almshouse - home of the Historical Society of Baltimore County, a view of the limestone and marble quarries, and St. Joseph's RC Church, where Mass will be said by Bishop W. Francis Malooly at 10am. Mass is open to the public, for which there is no charge; please consider joining us as we celebrate the role that the Catholic faith played in the lives of our early ancestors to the US. The afternoon is open so that attendees can explore the area, utilize the resources of the Historical Society, etc. An optional tour of the Inner Harbor did not have enough registrants to warrant a bus, but arrangements are being explored to support those that wish to drive or take the Light Rail to the Inner Harbor area. We will reconvene at 6pm at the Days Hotel for dinner and our Guest Speaker, Fr. Gerald Fogarty, an eniment historian at UVA, and a descendant of a Neary from Roscommon County. Ms. Tricia Pyne, the archivist for the Archdiocese of Baltimore will also join us for the evening. Entertainment by native Baltomorean musician, Patrick O'Brennan.

Sunday 7/22 ($35) Our closing event will be a brunch at An Poitin Stil, an authentic Irish pub not far from the Days Hotel, where door prizes will be awarded, including the grand prize of a Waterford Crystal "Tall Ship" sculpture.

I am a granddaughter of Clark Dorsey Peddicord of Indiana, PA. He was born in 1877 and died in 1962, the son of Dorsey Peddicord born 1821 to John and Mary Peddicord of MD, Dorsey's wife was Catherine Hunter. I feel very humble and proud, that my ancestor (William Peddicoart 1643)had a part in creating and building America. My daughter and her family live in the Manassas, VA area, what part of Maryland do you live, and when is the reunion planned.

I want to encourage anyone who is planning to attend the reunion or even if they aren't going but want to learn about the area where Gerrett Van Sweringen's family lived, to get in touch with the Historic St Mary's City:

They have what is referred to as the Crowe map which shows a depiction of the VanSweringen "ordinary"; books on the archelogical results found in the area and books on the early history of Maryland. Lots to choose from and a good way to support these efforts.

Canter Maryland Reunion

Please reply to mlc4059@yahoo.com if you are interested in attending a 2007 Canter reunion in Maryland, where it all started. Our best researchers will be there and we will be visiting Benedict where all our ancestors lived at one time or another. These Canters are from the Maryland/Virginia Indentures who arrived prior to 1700.

Peddicord/Petticord/Peddycord Reunion This Summer in Maryland

On the 340 year Anniversary of William Petticoate coming to MD. Some of his descendents are forming a Reunion Committee. We are hoping for lots of ideas and a few more committee members.

Please let me know all your thoughts on this subject by the end of January. Either on this MyFamily website or by email.

There will be a Photo wall, Map wall and a Family History wall, plus more.

Plans will be finalized by the end of February.

The Utz reunion is always held the first Sunday in November at Bush Creek Ch. of the Brethren near New Market MD. Many people come for the church service at 11 am and stay fro the reunion following at noon. Hope to see you there.
