Saturday August 30th at 12:00 noon covered dish dinner at Parkersburg City Park Shelter #3 at Parkersburg, West Virginia. It is time again for the Modesitt-Cunningham Reunion and this is a good time to get reacquainted with relatives you don’t know and catch up on the news with families we don’t see often. We would love to hear your family anecdotes, genealogy and see family photographs. Please call, write or tell all your relatives about the reunion. I know that their is a Modesitt reunion in Terre Haute, Indiana any information about this reunion would be appreciated.

Francis Marion Winans Line Reunion June 2009

We are looking to extend an invitation to ALL the distant relatives in the Francis Marion Winans/Martha Henderson Winans line. My father was Wilbur Dean Winans, son of Upton Jason Winans, son of Francis Marion Winans, son of Jno (John) Winans, son of Benjamin Winans and so on.

Clay Family Society

It's getting closer and closer for our Society to be meeting in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.
There will be a lot of changes this year and I think most will like them. We will be having speakers but are also adding a session for families to get together and compare research and just to get to know each other better.
The dates are June 25, 26, and 27. We will have an early registration on Thursday evening for those that may come in early. We have two choices for you to book rooms at. They are the Microtel which has nice rooms but no extras. Their rate is $65.00 for the 25th and 26th and $55.00 for the 27th. Their toll free number is 888-771-7171. Be sure to mention that it is for The Clay Family Society.
Our other choice is the Country Inns and Suites. Their rate is $85.00 per night. They offer a continental breakfast, coffee pot in room, hair dryers and more amenities. Their number is 800-456-4000. Again be sure to tell them it is for The Clay Family Society.
We must have a minimum of (40) forty rooms booked by March 31 to get the conference room for free. They are also allowing us to use their Fireplace room for our hospitality room.
Please book your rooms early as this area is booked up early. They will only hold our block for so long. I have been down there three times and have stayed at both facilities.
The area has a lot to offer so some may wish to come early or stay over and enjoy all that there is to see.

If anyone is interested in a post conference tour in the Bedford Co., Va. area, this is where the family of Rev. Charles Green Clay lived, please contact me personally. William Mitchell Clay lived in the County in the Fighting Creek area, which is now under the water of Smith Mt. Lake. Court houses in the area are Bedford, Pittsylvania, and Franklin and Campbell Counties and Lynchburg City. Jones Memorial library in Lynchburg is one of the finest genealogy libraries in this part of the country. Thomas Jefferson had a home in Bedford Co. called Poplar Forest, which is being restored to its original condition.

c'mon counsins and join us if you can for the annual Poland-Heare reunion Sunday, June 24. Everyone brings a covered dish or dessert and we all enjoy sharing information. We have met cousins from all over and,new faces are always welcome. The reunion takes place in the Bethel Church in Kirby, WV starting at 10 am. For the benefit of those not familiar with the location, take Rt. 50 to Agusta, R5. 28 south 20 miles or so to Grassylick Road, West 2 mles give or take a mile to Kirby Store, left 200 yards to the church. Look to see y'all there.

108th Reunion for the Marsh-Atkinson Family

Marsh-Atkinson family plans reunion

The 108th annual Marsh-Atkinson family reunion will be held beginning at noon July 16th at the Follansbee Municipal Park. A picnic dinner will be held in the Community House, which is air conditioned.

Following the picnic dinner, there will a white elephant auction, a basket auction, a display of family photographs and the recording of births and deaths. As in previous years, prizes will be awarded to the oldest and the youngest persons present, the person coming the farthest and the family with the most members present.

A third feature will be provided by guest artist, Jay Obertance, of Toronto, Ohio, a high school student. Obertance serves as a church musician at both St. Anthony’s and St. Joseph’s churches in Toronto, and from time to time performs at the First Presbyterian Church in the same city.

The fourth feature of the day, if it can be arranged, is a visit to the Atkinson Family Cemetery just off McKim Ridge Road. Prayers will be offered and appreciation given to the family’s pioneer ancestors. The Marsh, Atkinson, McKim, Morton and other related families were among the earliest settlers of Brooke County.

The fifth and final part of the reunion program is the business meeting, which will include discussion of plans for next year’s reunion and election of officers. Current officers include Emily Chapman Daily of Fort Mill, SC, president; Denise Dailey Toler of Bidwell, Ohio, vice president; T. J. Burchfield of Steubenville, treasurer; and Robert W. Marsh of Wintersville, secretary.

GASTON FAMILY SLATES ANNUAL REUNION EVENT

The annual Gaston family reunion has a new date and locations this year. The reunion will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 6th) at the Get Togethers Picnic Grounds, the former FOP Picnic Grounds, on Kings Creek Road near the baseball fields.

It's no secret that an annual Wine reunion takes place in Braxton County. I'm not acting in any official capacity, here, but thought I would send this for whomever might be interested. As I understand it, the reunion will be the first Sunday in August and, this year, it will be at Bulltown. Traditionally, everyone brings something to be auctioned during the reunion, and the proceeds help pay for the costs of putting the reunion together. I don't know if there is a single point of contact, and have no way of knowing if anything changes. I offer this for info only, and if anyone else can contribute any information, we'd all appreciate it.

The first all Dolan reunion is now a thing of the past, and it was a success....People from 7 states came together in Wheeling, WV to tell Dolan tales, play games, and get to know one another. Even the weather cooperated! The genealogists had a GREAT time, and matches were made. It was so exciting! Watch for further developements.
