Teleki Descendant looking for root tree documents and archives (for 1800-1900-1950 period)

Hi,

I would be grateful if one of you culd help with this information above.

Actually I would like to prove my family my filiation and am searching for descendants from Teleki de Szek family on the branch of GELLERT family, (it is a mother filiation). If I could find the descendants arble of last Teleki filiation in Transilvania - Romania - for 1900 and after all would be clarified.

The documents were transfered after the world war II, after 1945 - to Budapest or Wien, and it is hard to me to know where in Budapest. They say it is in Szecheny konvtar in the archives on microfilms or in old roman BUDA, near some old roman spas, on the other part of the Hill in Budapest.

I have been to the library of Szecheny and I could find nothing but some Teleky filiation books - that were irrelevant to me. I think I need guidance, otherwise it would take me to long.
Thank you for your time,
Marius.

My grandmother immigrated to Canada during WW2, and brought with her some of her family's items from Budapest. I'm told that her family held some importance there, and most of her items have crowns on them, as well as the family name. Because I cannot read Hungarian it's difficult for me to figure it all out, but I've been trying for some time.

Her maiden name was Kover,if anyone knows more about this name, or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate the help! thank you

Elaine

Fuzy family

Hi, everybody.

I am not a Fuzy, and am not related to any. But I do have some information I think may be relevant to some of you. I grew up in Los Angeles. In the late 50's my piano teacher was a totally wonderful woman named Gladys Claire Harkless Sinay. Her maiden name was Gladys Fuzy (with an umlaut over the "u"). She told me many, many stories of her family and the old Hungary, including her father Stephen Fuzy, who was a count and who was also a wonderful pianist and gifted composer.

Ms. Sinay was born in Cleveland to Stephen Fuzy and his wife Jessica Fuzy. He had been born in Hungary (somewhere near Budapest, I believe). But his wife was born in Ohio. He moved to American and settled in Cleveland, where he dreamed of becoming a great romantic composer. Alas, such dreams rarely come true, and neither did his, though some of his songs did, I believe, get published. To make a living he arranged music for the local Hungarian community, and played for dances and parties, etc.

Ms. Sinay once showed me her father's signet ring. I think it was carved in amethest or some light blue stone. I cannot quite remember what it looked like, but I will never forget how impressed I was to see it. I do remember that it featured a hand in a gauntlet with a sword, which Ms. Sinay told me dated back to the days when the Hungarians fought the Turks. She often said that the Fuzy family was 500 years old, and that it included many distinquished members.

Sometime in the late 1930's, when she was still in her early 20's, Ms. Sinay told me she whent to Europe to be with her father's family for a while -- one summer I believe. I think that she spent most of the time in Budapest, because I remember her telling me that one beautiful night she walked across a bridge over the Danube. It was cold, and as she did so she hugged herself tightly and said to herself, "This is a night you must never forget." I believe she said that she had just been out on a date with a Jewish Hungarian newspaper editor who did not survive the war. She was raised Catholic herself, but had other jewish friends who studied at the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Budapest, and who wound up cremated in Hitler's concentration camps. (Heady stuff for a young boy such as I to be told about).

Later, in California, Ms. Sinay married Arthur Harkless, and had one son, Douglas (?). She was divorced from Harkless and later married Dr. Henry Sinay. Dr. Sinay died before her, and she lived alone in their home in Woodland Hills (in the San Fernando Valley) for the last few years of her life. I think she died in around 2000. She was one of the most remarkable women I ever met, and she certainly made a deep impression on the awkward young piano student I was then.

Fuzi/Fuzy Family in Transylvania

According to the geneologist in Hungary said that from the book by Ivan Nagy, "The Families of Hungary with Coat of Arms & Family Trees says that the Fuzy family comes from Transylvania from the times of suzerains. 3 brothers went to Hungary in 3 different directions. 1 went to Haromszek (this line died out) The 2nd went to Udvarhelyszek & their descendants are the Fuzy families of homorod-karacsonfalva. The 3rd line went to Saros County. (this is the line of my ancestors) This line is mentioned in Bela Kempelen wrote in his book "Hungarian Noble Families" & received its title & letter of nobility in 1515. Is there anyway of knowing where in Transylvania they came from? I want to continue the research
there. Thanks for any leads!

Toth nobility by King Rudolf II

Hi All,

I recently found a record for my ancestor Mihaly Toth who lived from the late 1700's/early 1800's. It stated his family was granted nobility from King Rudolf II and it was recorded along with a genealogy in Szolnok megye. Although it stated that information, it did NOT give a year. I searched and I read that Rudolf II reined from 1576 to 1611.. so it has to be somewhere in that time range. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Nick M. Gombash

identifying the former owner of a fine firearm

I bought a very nice Belgian 12 guage double barreled shotgun from a guy who bought a bunch of
guns at an estate sale and didn't know what he had. It was marked on the barrel with the name of a gunsmith
Andreas Lauenroth--Budapest whom I assume sold the gun out of his shop. Markings
on the water table and barrel flats show that the manufacturer was Manufacture Liegeoise D'Armes a Feu.
So I've been trying to do research on it. I found a reprint
of their 1910 catalog and found the model in there. Recently I found an online
directory of Budapest from 1900 and found an entry for the gunsmith.

Nev (name) : Lauenroth Andreas
Foglalkozas (occupation) : puskamuves (gunsmith)
Kerulet (district) : IV.
Cím (address): vaczi u. 60.

First of all, anyone familiar enough with Budapest to tell me whether vaczi utca in district IV was a good place to have gun shop? Or has heard of this gunsmith?

Now here is the intriguing part. The shotgun has an engraved stock shield (a small metal plate, which is
usually engraved with the initials of the owner) this one has a five pointed crown below which are the initials DNGY with the D and Y kind of small and the N
and G large and entertwined. I am guessing the crown indicates royalty, any ideas on how to find whose initials these are? I'd be happy to send pictures.

My great grandfather, Geza Fuzy emmigrated to the U.S. late 1800's or early 1900's. My great great grandfather's name was Istvan (Stephen) Fuzy & my great great great grandfather's name was Jonas (John) At some point my ancesters were enobled and given land due to their military service which is why the spelling of the name changed from Fuzi to Fuzy and Baron Von Fuzy came into play. It is rumored that they had land in Transylvania & Budapest and that a five star pointed insignia ring was in the family. Also, there were 19 children in there some where. Magyar was the spoken language. Thanks for any info.

Religious denomination of nobility

Hello all,

Having recently come up empty on a number of otherwise promising leads in my genealogical research, I would like to pose a question in order to develop a new strategy as to how to proceed. Specifically I am curious to know as to whether the former Hungarian nobility (ie, minor nobility) would have had any predominant religious denomination?

My particular situation is this - my ancestor was married in a Roman Catholic church in 1873. However, a thorough search of the Roman Catholic churches in that locality and the surrounding towns has turned up no birth record for this individual. Is there any reason to believe that I should start searching through the records for the Lutheran and Calvinist churches in the same area? Is it likely that he would have adopted the Roman Catholic faith of his bride?

Thanks in advance for any help you're able to provide!

Sincerely,
Brian Szente

It stated my ancestors were granted the nobility on January 11, 1611 by King Matthias II and recorded in the Zemplén archives on February 21, 1612.

How would I go about acquiring copies of the records that exist in the Zemplén archives? He was listed as the steward/owner/official of the Estate of Tapolca @1831. What exactly does this mean? Is it an actual Estate/Manor? They also lived in Abos, Abauj, Miskolc & Lemes. Thanks for any info.

hello everyone!I have a question and need some help...

okay,so a few years ago, about 2 or 3,one of my family members, specifically my mom's cousin whom we had just met,had done some research on our family's last name. Our last name is "Csobor" and she found out that my great-great grandfather's name was Janos Csobor and apparently he owned land somewhere near Debrecen,Hungary. He also was a hussar stationed in I believe she said Szombathely, near Austria. He left the country in the early 1900's. He and my great-great grandmother Rose spoke fluent German and Hungarian. All of his children were born in America, and there are many in New Jersey.Apparently he also had land near the Austrian border that he left to a sister as well as also stating that there were records of our name which he said at one time was spelled "Czobor", can be traced back to at least the 1600's. I do not know much more than this. My great-great grandmother apparently used to talk about the farm in our last name near the Romanian border that she and my great-great grandfather lived on.Apparently they would not discuss much else, as my great-great grandfather fled the country to come to America. He never had papers for America. I wish to know more on this name as well, and to find descendants I know I have somewhere within Hungary, and maybe even Romania.

Also, she has told us that apparently our family was related to a:
Count Csobor who wasted away all of the money he had on booze and women but one day,I was online doing some research and found out that he had owned a manuscript of the Glockendon Hours.see, this is what I had found:
"One of these inscriptions goes back to the 18th century, naming a count Csobor as the owner of the manuscript. He stemmed from a highly prestigious Hungarian family. One member of the family had fought in the Thirty Years' War, during which he must have acquired the manuscript, probably a war booty. The last descendant of the house cared very little about his belongings and had to sell art treasures in his possession for financial reasons, among them the Glockendon Hours."
now I was wondering if anyone, possibly ANYONE,would be able to help me learn more about this Count Csobor and the type of person that he was like, what his patents of nobility were like and who he possibly married,if he had any kids...anything like that.I REALLY and HONESTLY would like to know more about this Count Csobor if anyone's able to help.If anyone's able to help at all,in ANY way whatsoever,or knows more information about the "Csobor" or "Czobor"history,or can lead me to any websites with information about patents of nobility, then I honestly and TRUELY appreciate it!=]

Dear Sirs,
I am interested to find ,what kind of connection had the Szily Nagyszigeth family from Pecs (Funfkirchen) and my grandfather Mr. Charles Holt, that came to America between 1889-1890. and kept in his belongings the Szily Nagyszigeth coat of arms (Seal) ,said it belonged to a property he had in Fufkirchen Hungary; He also mentioned that changed his surname to "Holt" (meant dead) It was my undestanding that the coat of arms usually belonged to individuals, not to properties ? ; I met Dr. Imre Szily ,a direct descendent of the Szily Nagyszigeth family in Budapest 1989,but could not explain, why my family had his family coat of Arms? I would like to know, if it was normal for a family ,lend his Seal coat of arms ,to a friend, for safeconduct purposes?
I wonder if Mr. Lajos Reich can take my case ;It would be most appreciated .
Carlos Holt
Note,
I would like to know, what of connection, existed between the families Szily Nagyszigeth ,and the Habsburg's

It gives information on how a person became a noble and the rules of inheritance. It's an interesting read and a beginning for reference.
lori

Solymossy family geneology - relations

I am seeking information on the Solymossy Family. From the information I do have, the family apparently goes back to 1305, however, the most accurate information I have is that there are two principal branches: The Szatmáry branch, (going back to Mihály, named judge in 1718) which may have died off in 1920 with the death of István, and the Transylvania branch (of which we belong), traced back to János, who married Ujváry Éva and gave birth to Imre in 1756.

I will gladly share the family tree such as I have - but have reason to believe it is not complete. We were told that our grandfather was an only child, but have found information to the contrary.

In the Roman Catholic Churches, in the all of the world the bells are belling at noon. The Roman Pope orderd it, after the winning in Nándorfehérvár (the present Belgrade) what was the strongest Hungarian fort after Buda castle, and what was the "door of Europe". The battle was exactly in this day just 550 years ago, at 22 of July 1456. The bells are belling for the heroic János Hunyadi, leader of the Hungarian Kingdom (the king was a child).
By this winning Europe got 70 years adventage before the next Ottoman attack.
Although the ancestors of the present and emigrated Hungarian habitants mostly have not "Hungarian" ancestors from that age, everybody proud to this winning.
My friends, when you hear the bells at noon, do not forget to teach for your children, grandchildren: the bells are belling now for your ancestors' land, also forremembrance János Hunyadi.
Thanks, lajos reich.

In particular, does anyone have any information on how exactly the Rakovsky family of Zlate Moravce in present-day Slovakia descend from them? Would be very grateful. Many thanks.

My grandmother, my father tells me, was a baroness . Her husband was Karaz, and that is my father's family name. My father came to Canada in 1956. Does that make my grandfather a baron? Or only she has a title?

Where might I learn about my grandmother? Is there a directory of titled people in Budapest from those old days? My father put all of this behind him, as having survived the revolution and his painful childhood.
He doesn't talk to much about it.

Hello,

According to this link (I think) I may be descended through Austrian / Bohemian Nobility:

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:zSaD-1-k71UJ:www.austro...

But, I have no background on how this works or even how it's passed down, just that I am descended through a Johann Baptist Riedl from Graslitz (in the same exact window of time), identical to who I am from.

Oh, and my surname seems to have been changed from Riedl -> Reatl upon coming to America, and then through a death, accidentally from Reatl -> Real, hence my current surname.

Since all I knew of my family was being from peasantry / middle class, I need the basics on this.

Thanks,

Jason Real

He may also have had land in Sojtor.

His daughter or relative Julia of Csaby was married to Sandor Geczy Garamszegi, Knight of Budapest. I have information on him, but not the Csaby family.

I cannot read Hungarian, so all random acts of genealogical kindness would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking for information on him for my entire life but have had little success.
St Margaret

There are two clans in Scotland who clam to be descendents of Hungarian noblemen who accompanied St. Margaret, future Queen of Scotland, from Hungary to England around 1066: the Drummond and the Leslie:
1.	Queen Margaret’s “ …chamberlain, Bartholomew, a Hungarian nobleman, had much impressed King Malcolm who made him Commander of Edinburgh Castle. Bartholomew married Beatrix, the King's sister in 1070 and thus the family and Clan of Leslie was founded.”
2.	“According to legend, the Drummonds are descendent from Yorik de Marot. Yorik was the Royal Admiral to Hungary and a grandson of King Andrew of Hungary. It was he who took the perilous journey, in winter, to reach the Scottish shore at Stirling. It was he who delivered unto Malcolm Canmore, St. Margaret, the future queen of Scotland.”
There are many sources about St. Margaret, eg. “St. Margaret Queen of Scotland” by Alan J. Wilson, which provides a very and scholarly discussion of her life and origin, but there is no mention of either Bartholomew or Yorik de Marot in any of them, which I could find. Yet both of the above clans swear by their Hungarian origins.

My question is this: Are there any references to either of these individuals in the Hungarian literature or history?
Has anyone out there purchased the Nagy or Kempelen CDs from Arcanum? If so, I would appreciate a look-up. If not, I may consider purchasing them myself and will do look-ups for others. I do have the CD of Királyi könyvek I. (1527-1647) if anyone would like me to do a look-up on that. I'm still gnashing my teeth over them removing the free databases, but it looks like those days are over.

I know for a fact, that he and his wife, were from Hungary.
I have tried to research the name, here in the US but only come up with a match for their 2 names. It's like....NO OTHER "Boremissa" exsists, in the USA???
I don't understand it.
Does anyone have any idea about the name?
I would sincerely apppreciate the info...........
Linda

A few years ago on familysearch.org I found my families pedigree. I some how clicked on a link that led to the Royal Family of Hungary . The past two years I have tried to find the link to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary and I have not been successful. I sent a letter to the source of the pedigree but she has not sent a reply.

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
spouse: Ludwig IV, Duke of Thuringia

Parents: Andrew II,King of Hungary
Gertrud von Andechs of Meran

I believe the pedigree started with
Nathan Estabrook ( then I clicked on the following names)
Hannah Haywood
Edward Wright
Martha Bulkeley
Randall Grosvenor and Anne Charlton

If any one knows how to find out which line leads to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary please send a reply.

Thank you,
Melissa

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this business & if they were legitimate. Also, my grandfather was baptised at a church in Johnstown Pennsylvania. Church name was Sancti Ladislai Hungarian Catholic Church in 1907. Does anyone know if this church exists? I cannot seem to find the town my great grandfather Geza was born in Hungary & was hoping that the info would be here. Thanks!!

I am working on a historical project as an intern for The Toro Company in Bloomington, MN and ran across some material concerning this family. I believe Susan Gyorky was one of the girls mentioned. She would have been about 4 years-old at the time they arrived. Please contact me if you have any information regarding this matter. Thank you.

Name Question...

Hello,

I would like to know if there is a meaning behind why a certain branch of my family used another name and passed it down. Here is the lineage, with the names as they would appear on the documents:

Nemes Boros Tóth Mihály (Sr.)
^
Nemes Boros Tóth Mihály (Jr.)
^
Nemes Boros Tóth Károly
^
Nemes Boros Tóth Klára

Tóth is the surname and Boros appeared at times, just as the initial B. like "Nemes B. Tóth Mihály".

Is there any explanation to why the Boros name was passed down like that? Thanks.

Nick M.
My great-grandparents Franz (born 1870) and Amalia LANGER (born 1874) went from NIKOLSBURG/Austria now MIKULOV/Czech Republic to Brazil with their children in 1910. Family legend tells Amalia was descendent from a noble hungarian family, her maiden name being somewhat like SCHADITSKY (no one was able to spell it correclty to me). I am posting this message and asking for help, I cannot find the name anywhere and would be grateful if someone at least corrects it for me. Thank you for reading this, Mônica.

Family history has it that my great-grandfather (Ignatz Fredmann) was married to an illegitimate daughter of his (Rosa), possibly from Anna Nahowski. I've read that she had several children with him but the only link I can find is for Helene Nahowski Berg. If anyone has any other information, please contact me.

I've heard that Anna Nahowski has a private journal in the archives in Prague. It details about her long affair with Franz Joseph. I've been told that somehow I'm a relative of his and thought the journal might shed some light (possibly thru one of their illegitimate children?) If anyone knows how I can get access to it, please let me know.

In checking Roman Catholic Church records for Devecser and Kolontar, Hungary I found where my ancestor by the name of Boda had nobility marked in margin of record. Can somebody tell me how I go about finding out what kind of nobility it was and how it was bestowed on the family.

Is there a website in English that could possibly help me.

Thank you.

I am trying to prove or disprove a family "legend" of a connection to the Habsburg dynasty, probably on the distaff side. My G-G-G-grandfather was Anton Falbenhaupt, b. 21 Jan 1820 in Graz. I occasionally find references to a Falbenhaupt line of nobility, i.e. Anna Regine, Countess of Falbenhaupt b. 1622 Wildhaus a.d. Drau. Does anyone have any more complete info on Anton, the Falbenhaupt nobility, or Anna Regine? Was she part of the now extant Dietrichstein family?
I know that my family had five members who were granted titles of nobility. According to the 1755 census of nobles and the books "Noble Families of Gomor-Kishont County" and "Noble Families of Szatmar County," I know the following: Paul Tollassy was living in Rimavska-Sobota in 1755. John and George Tollassy were living in Roznava in 1755. John's son George moved to Tirgu-Mures, Romania, and in 1784 was granted a title of nobility. A Thomas Tollassy lived in Szatmar County in 1831. Each of these men is recorded as being noble.

Aside from those references, I have never found any other documentation. What I am looking for is official legal documents that could explain why each individual was granted his title and perhaps a little more about my family history.

To whom do I write to find these documents?
