Doing some researches of my own about French presence in India, I recall to have come over a message from a European lady "Comtesse de Goutiere" seeking information about her forebares. Perhaps a person with such a noble French title may aid your enquiry. Though I am not sure of the origination of her own title--she recorded her father and some earlier members of Goutiere family also, born in India, who did not seemingly appear to be title-holders nor have married to high-born persons, such as Bourbon. Is there some organisation still existing in France, being a Republic, which can authorise new aristocracy?
