A distant ancestor of mine was called Jean de la Vigne. He was born in Valenciennes, France, around 1560, and died in Amsterdam, Holland after 1622. He was also an ancestor of David Ackerman, who emigrated to the United States in 1662 and whose line has been studied extensively.
I understand that Jean de la Vigne was a protestant Reverend (a Huguenot?) who moved to Holland to flee religious persecution.
Can anyone tell me more about this surname or the "de la Vigne" family. This surname no longer seems to be in use in France. Perhaps it has changed form?
