Re: The Kaiser and his Court
Hi Shirlee,
I'm afraid Gr Gr Grandpa Rosler moved about a bit! After a stint in the Prussian Army, he joined the newly formed French foreign Legion. He then ended up in Africa, back home to Prussia and finally to South australia via London England.
Apparently the surname can have a variety of spellings, which doesn't help. Roesler or Roseler seem to be the most common.... I am at a loss to know why he decided to come so far from his place of origin! I am also aware that the name pops up in your cavalry records etc in the US.
If the American Roslers and the Australian ones are connected I do not know! I have very few clues as to where he came from and I'm sure he wouldn't have been an only child! Oops almost forgot, he had an Uncle who was a ships Captain, that's how he got to England! He hitched a ride with him...
If you have any suggestions and how to proceed I would be most grateful.
Kindest regards,
Karen
