Val, my grandfather, Leo Hauck, which I beleive is your grandmother's brother was also a free bleeder, not severe, but he was.
Physical description of Leo was tall, like 6-2, 6-4 (big man) lumberjack type, reddish/blonde hair, blue eyes, kind disposition, also had a heart problem, which he died young from.
Gramma Hauck, Leo's wife, my grandmother, is the one that told me when I was 13 year's old that we were related to royalty, she told me the entire Julia story, she told me "Hans" I remember that name, she told me about a crest, she told me about dropping the "von" on the name, she told me about the name change, I recall the name change, as I recall it, she said originally it was "Haucken" or something phonetically close.
I remember looking up some geneology and finding an Augustus Haucken (Hollandaise records) from the 1660's or thereabouts that tied in with Hans Mortiz line.
We just need to connect Joseph from Germany to tie in our line, those baptismal records would do the trick. P.S. I can not get a hold of the church by phone to order :)
Also, my grandmother told me about a book "The Hauck Family of Wexlar" by an historian, Adalbart (or with an "e") Brauer, Bauer...I think this book does exist, but I can't find it because I can't read/write German (travesty huh?).
She said our line is in that book and shows the links.
My brother Robert Jr. also has a blood disorder that his Dr. has said is rare, but no elaboration there. I don't know what it is. Just some more info. to pass around as the "stories" go. I have a hard time believing my grandmother was making them up, she had too many particular details.
Being a women (even though my Dad would be a direct male descendent to this Hauck line)I don't know if DNA would do the trick? Does anybody know this? Oh, P.S. Uncle Rich, my Dad's brother, Leo's son, was also color blind.
Thanks! Lea Ann M. Hauck
