Kaiser Wilhelm lineage

I am looking to find descendents of Kaiser Wilhelm II. It has been rumored through our family that we are distant relations, but I have yet to find the connection. Our German last name was von Rundstedt but was changed to Rundt when ancestors immigrated. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

GHdA? von Wittlinsbach

Can someone who has access to a GHdA please check the name "von Wittlinsbach" for me? I just received a birth record for a 5xgreat-grandmother who father's name was Anton von Wittlinsbach, Statthalter of Dill (now in Rhein-Hunsrück) from 1736-1776. The record had the word "praenoblis" (of ancient nobility) before the names. I would like to find where Anton was born but this document and those of siblings give no indication where the family originated.

Need help verifying the parents of Heinrich Sigismund von der HEYDE (Prussian Colonel)

I'm looking for help to verify the parents of Heinrich Sigismund von der HEYDE, who was born in 1703 at Tzsacksdorf, Niederlausitz, Prussia and died 4 May 1765 at Kolberg, Germany and buried in Marienkirche, Kolberg, Germany. He fought for King Frederick during the Seven Years War and was honored many times by him as the Defender of Kolberg. Someone told me the book The Annual of the German Nobility of 1896 shows his most likely parents as Heinrich Sigismund von der Heyde (1671-about 1740), Lord of Tzsacksdorf, and Susanne von Stutterheim (1680-1722). Can anyone help me verify this relationship so I can establish this family link and discover the rest of his family?

Hohenzollern Royals

A number of persons of german ancestry do have some distant connection to royal and noble lineage.

Some may be related by marriage into said families and have children of that union. Therefore the blood line between the commoner and nobility/royal lines descends down to some.

Certain Hohenzollern past royals did inherit by genetic means a rare gene that also descended into the past and present British and Russian Romanov Royals.

One way of verifiying if a person may be related to royal lines is by DNA, the other by verifying if the specific gene that sometimes becomes visible may have been inherited by themselves or their ancestors.

W. The problem lies that my Grandfather passed away a few weeks before my Dad was born and for some reason they did not stay in touch with the von Hassel side of the family. I have just ordered a bunch of microfilm from LDS for our area in Northern Germany.

sounds like vonBronkufsku?

I'm posting this to several boards hoping to find a lead. We have no record of my great-great grandmother's maiden name, only what my mother and grandfather remembered it sounded like - von Bronkufsku, which could be a very butchered version, but I'm hoping someone can help.

I know there is debate whether the "von" means from a specific town or area or has to do with royalty. Does it sound at all familiar? Even a slight similarity to a name you're familiar with?

Little background - Anna von Bronkufsku was born around 1864 in Germany according to the 1920 and 30 censuses and arrived in NY around 1885. She married Bernhardt Seidel, unclear whether this was in Europe or America; his arrival date is a few years earlier. Anna died in 1934 in Brooklyn, as evidenced by the NY Death index.

Any inkling would be great!

I was just writing to see if any one had information on this name. I have seen a few web sites and a family book that place the coming of our family to America in the early 17th century. I have found information on the web concerning a Derenburger forest in Germany that I assume to be a remnant of the family name. Or does anyone have information as to how I could more throughly trace this name in Germany?

Martini Family & Leiningen-Westerburg Family of Schadeck Castle

I am attempting to establish the identity of Magdalena, wife of Johann Andreas Martini of Schadeck Castle in Grafschaft Westerburg. She married him there on 5 Aug 1651, bore three sons, and was buried there on 31 Mar 1658.

Her first son Georg Wilhelm Martini was christened there 9 Jan 1653, with his godmother being Juliana Walpurgis, Fraulein zu Leiningen-Westerburg [daughter of Christoph (1575-1635), Graf zu Leiningen-Westerburg, by his wife Philippina Catharina Walpurgis (d.1647) zu Wied und Runkel].

Her second son Simon Philipp Martini was christened there 5 Nov 1654, and his godparents included: (1) Sophia Elisabetha (1626-1688) zu Lippe, Graefin zu Leiningen-Westerburg [wife of Georg Wilhelm (1619-1695), Graf zu Leiningen-Westerburg], (2) Simon Philipp (1646-1670) zu Leiningen-Westerburg [eldest son of Georg Wilhelm (1619-1695)], (3) Johannes Valentin Holweg, praeceptor aulicus, and (4) Anna Christina, wife of Samuel Schlosser, chaplain of Schadeck. Simon Philipp Martini married Elisabetha Catharina Ackermann (1657-1728) on 24 Jan 1682 at Schadeck, and was buried there 11 Feb 1729.

My question is~
Given the godparents of Magdalena's children, was she the same Magdalena who was born 21 Sep 1613 at Schaumburg in Grafschaft Schaumburg to Christoph zu Leiningen-Westerburg by his wife Philippina Catharina Walpurgis zu Wied und Runkel? This placement would make her the sister of Juliana Walpurgis mentioned above, the sister-in-law of Sophia Elisabetha mentioned above, and the aunt of Simon Philipp zu Leiningen-Westerburg.

My descent from Simon Philipp Martini is through his daughter Anna Juliana [fourth of nine children] who was christened at Schadeck 21 May 1689. She married her first husband Johann Adam Schreiber there on 25 Nov 1707, and her second Johann Ludwig Schmidt 2 Sep 1710 also there. She was buried at Schadeck 9 Jun 1740.

Any assistance is appreciated.

my mother's family went by the name of harz/hartz/von hartz in the united states, and i have verified that it was von hartz in germany. He had a son named levin christian von hartz in 1721. The family is in the winzlar, dudensen, brokeloh area and i am trying to track down anyone with any ideas or insights or by sheer luck a family connection. thanks

searching for the "French Duke" in our German family history...please help

Our German family history includes a French Duke that is a mystery at this point. Our family tree had been traced to the 1500's and was loaned to a fellow researcher by an elderly Aunt who then passed away - It's been essentially lost for several years now ,so we must start somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what resources I should try to identify this fellow? Our Koerner family homestead was Agneshoff and our GGGGF Adolph Koerner recieved an OB medical doctorate from possibly a school in Prussia, in 1835. Any info would be much appreciated.

I'm trying to track down the history of the Harrison County, Iowa, Arbaugh's. I think I have determined that the came from the Virgina's originally and it was two brothers who immigrated here, but I'm not sure when. I am also pretty sure that they left Germany on religious terms, but I am uncertain of their city where they came from. Also, I believe that they were Erbach's in Germany, and more than likely came from the von Erbach's. Any help would be delightful! Thanks!

I have found some interesting web pages on German Nobility, some general books on German history and a lot of books on English Nobility so far, but that is it. I think that would be more interesting to me to start with rather than just knowing a bunch of names and birthdates of ancestors. I pretty much know that my Von side of the family lived in the same area for at least 700 years and what they did for a living; that my mother came to US after the bad experience of WWII.

Also wondering if anyone knows of any Von ancestors that came directly to America. I know in England that a lot of royal 2nd sons came to the US, but I was wondering if, since the German system divided property differently, if the Vons pertty much stayed in Germany until a female relative married out of the system or until WWII.

Thanks,
Inger

I have an Ancestry that has roots back to Germany 1883-1884 ( Ship Manefest)
Searching the Internet ( Keyword "Kleinsang" ) yields hits showing there may be connection to this surname with Royalty .

My specific interest is in books/documents that could connect MY J. C. H. Kleinsang to the Kleinsangs in 1700's Germany.
His wife's name is Dorothea/Dorathea Wokel Kleinsang (b aprox. 1850's. I have Dorothea's siblings names from a Family Bible as Henry, Hanna, Elizabeth. Dora's Children are listed as from Altona, Prussia?, Germany. Their names are Henrietta, Henry, Fernanda, Fredrika. I see there is a section of W Hamburg by the name Altona. Could this be a match?
I'm not up to speed on the various boundaries of that era.
Where in Germany( Hamburg ) could I write for birth records from 1870's to 1885. There is also a couple of hits in Ellis Island in the early 1900 indicating a return to the Old Country. ( Perhaps to visit their kins and friends for the last time)

Thanks
H Trump

I am trying to find out more history of the Knight-Konrad Werner Von Hattstatt who lived in what is today "Hattstatt, France" but at the time he lived there the area belonged to Germany. I am trying to find the missing generations from Konrad to my ancestor--Johann Heinrich Hattstatt in Germany about the end of the 1600's. This is about 10 0r 11 generations. some of his children moved to Basel, Switzerland and some married into a "Phirt" family. I know there were about 8 children but do not have all their names or any of their deacendants. Can anyone help me with his genealogies???
Hello all
My name is Alexandra & I have been trying to trace some of my family from Germany.
I am looking for any information about the name Reifferscheidt & von Reifferscheidt. My father's Grandfather on his mother's side was a Count. His father was a Count also and was born in or around the castle village of Reifferscheidt in Eifel, Germany. It is also said they were von Reifferscheidt. Later the name was westernised to Reiffer before they moved to India.
How does one verify if ones relatives were Counts etc. I have no reason to doubt what I have been told but I would like to know where it says these people were Counts.
Does the "von" carry through to other family members?

I would appreciate any help or guidance.
Cheers
Alexandra
I am seeking possible websites where I can trace families of German Nobility (not royalty) in and around Berlin and Magdeburg. I have traced some information from the Berlin.de, Magdeburg.de and Alemann Association websites but feel there might be an alternative site where the information is held in a database and therefor not found by doing a search engine find on the surname.

Many of the ancestors I am interested in were of 'the ruling class' in German History being rulers of their cities and influential within financial circles. Some had contact with the Kiser and others were religious leaders.

Any help would be appreciated,

Hugh Lodge
Essex, England.

Nobel Names of interest:
von ALEMANN, von BLANKENFELD, von CLAUSWITZ, von der GROSSEN, von GUERICKE, von KELLER, von SYBORG, von WINS
Greetings! In the last few years, I have found the true spelling of my last name. My ancestor came to America in 1775 from Germany. Of course it is the same story as so many others, that few spoke English, and to simplify everything, the "authorities" and the immigrant agreed in a few seconds on a name. After going through the Mormon Church Family Center files and hundreds of internet files and downloads (Microsoft has increased my memory several times), and all the CDs, it feels like I have discovered for the first time who I am. Call it premonition, a calling, or just plain crazy, but I have felt that since I was a child that I have very special roots in Germany and I now have a need to find out more. In my heart I have always felt that there was something missing. This has become my passion and I just want more information. Perhaps someone has something to share or has more links! Ironic that someone has to be 44 years old, has a family thats been in America for 228 years, and finally finds out their TRUE roots.

Reichsgraf titel in the Imperial Germany 1871?

I had a grandmothers mother who in a book "Swedish men and women" and in a necrolog after her death 1933 was called "the German imperial countess" in a swedish newspaper. Yhis title use to be a title only for the Roman imperial nobilities before 1806 when the Roman Imperial System were abandoned. I have searched for this titel and my ancestors from this family called Martini but can´t find them in the "Gothas" (there are several Martini families but I can´t find the actual persons)
I also wonder if this titel which in German is Reichsgraf/Reichsgräfinn could be a titel that also was used after the creation of the German Imperium in 1871. Did Wilhelm I give such titels to lower ranked nobilities as a gratification for help during the earlier Prussian wars for example. Otto von Bismarck was for example ranked first a count (during the Prussian era) and later he became a "fürst" a prince.
Do anyone know about this system during the second "reich"? or how and where I can find something about it?

Sincerely Yours: Steve

A few years ago on familysearch.org I found my families pedigree. I some how clicked on a link that led to the Royal Family of Hungary . The past two years I have tried to find the link to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary and I have not been successful.
I am curious if anyone has information regarding the history (family tree) of the von Walderdorff family in Germany. I have information back to Johann Daniel von Walderdorff who came to America in 1805. The name was changed to Waltersdorff. I am hoping to go back further to the family that was in Germany and as far as I know was noblility. Even when I do regular internet queries, I come up with names of noblility today. However, nothing I am finding is extremely helpful. If anyone has any helpful information I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

We have a family heirloom of a wedding veil given as a gift to my great grandmother Anna Hasenbalg of Hannover by a Lady Mary Brickstoke (or Marie Brigstock, or Mary Bridgstock) who was a Lady-in Waiting to Queen Elizabeth of Hungary (19th century) or possibly Queen Elizabeth of Roumania (also 19th century). We might know which Queen gave this veil if we could have access to her ladies in waiting names. Any ideas how to find names of the royal court.

Von Kamp and Bresser

Does anyone have -- or can help me find -- information regarding the Von Kamp history.

What I have is ... My great grand mother was Maria Elizabeth von Kamp before she married Herrmann Becker, at which time she lost her nobility status. My notes show that she had a brother Johann Henrich Von Kamp, borne June 16, 1828 and died 1910 in Detroit Michigan, USA.

Their father was Herman Adam Von Kamp, born in Ruhrort, 1796, died in Mulherm,1867. He married Catharine Rottgen. Handwritten notes by my father show he or she was a schoolteacher.

Herman Adam's father was Jacob Von Kamp, born about 1764 and died April 17,1830. He married Elizabeth Nusmann.

I'm trying to find Jacob's father and mother and any generations prior to that.

I'm also trying to find out what everybody did for an occupation and the circumstances of their nobility. I am presuming nobility rather than royalty, but I could be wrong.

On the Bresser side, my grandfather was Gerhard Bresser, born 1846, died 1920 in Detroit. He married Elizabeth Becker, daughter of Hermann Becker and Maria Elizabeth (Von Kamp) Becker.

Gerhard's father was Gottfried Bresser, born 1815, died 1892. He married Louise Quack, born 1819, died 1894.

I would like to find Gottfried's parents and any generations prior to that.

The LDS website shows a whole bunch of Bressers, including Gottfried and Gerhard, as having been born, christened, married in Hocknukirch. I suspect that some of the Bresser's are brothers to Gottfried, but have not proven that as yet.

Any help much appreciated.

Jerry Bresser
jbresser@flash.net

Anyone have any info about my family being nobility? Johannes "Hans" Beiel is my earliest ancestor I have uncovered so far. His inheritance/fortune was stolen from him in the 1600's in Germany. He was born in Dusslingen, Germany. His son was Martin Breuell, born 1622. Then came Conrad Breyel, born 1652, then Hans Jacob Broyles, born 1705 in Ostesheim, Wuttenburg, Germany who married Maria Fleishman. Blessings to you for reading this post.

I have traced the" Hattstatt" line back to Germany to about 1690's. The one who came to America during the Rovoloutionary War was said to have been "of the Nobility". In working on this name I have also discovered that in the 1000's there was a Knight--Konrad Werner von Hattstatt. There were a few of his descendants listed then the information is no longer found. Can anyone advise me how I may find more information to link the last Hattstatt that I have found record of to this Konrad Hattstatt? How may I find out if there were Hattstatt's who were Nobility??? I would also appreciate being able to discover more generations of Hattstatts of my lineage. All advice will be appreciated. Thank you very much.
Jo Ann Hatstat
jo@vermontel.net

History of "von" in German/Prussian names

Was the "von XXX" always where XXX was the place the nobleman was from?
When the the "von" start to be used?
When did people with the name "von XXX" start to show up in places other than XXX?

I have found "Albert von Werder", aka "Albertus de insula". The year mentioned is 1093. He seems to have been from Werder (an island in the Havel River between Potsdam and Brandenburg, west of Berlin), though my German isn't good enough to figure that out for sure. It seems his remains were brought from somewhere to a cloister somewhere else.

General Count von Werder was born in 1808 in East Prussia, which isn't very close to Werder.

I wonder how the family got the name "von Werder" and when and who the first "von Werder" was.

Loeb, Klein,

Mary Magdalene (Magdaline) Loeb was born July 8, 1855 or 1858, and married to Franklin Kline/Klein in Pontiac 1875.
Mary had at least two siblings and possibly as many as 6. Two brothers were Geo (George) and Joe. Geo was known as a Reverand and family lore has it that he rushed into a burning church to save sacraments - suffering injury that caused his death. Church location and date of fire unknown. It is also believed that all of Mary's siblings were born before 1852.

Family lore has it that Mary's mother was of royal dissent, but married a commoner and thus excommunicated from her family lineage. It is believed the mother's name may have also been Mary and that she was born in England or Germany.

If you have any connections to these families, or any leads as to where I might find more information I would appreciate hearing from you.

Any information on him? A piece I have describes him as 'notary'. He came from the old Lubeckian patrician family, the von Evers. He, personally, was awarded arms and raised to Baronial status on 12 September 1801 by the Holy Roman Empire.
I have no idea what he did or anything. His son, Baron Christian Nicolaus von Evers, became Mayor of Lubeck and I have some odd rumours saying he was great friends with the Queen of Sweeden. Any information on either of these figures will be appreciated.

Germany nobility - why to call a duke?

Hi... I'm wondering if anyone here might be able to help me out with a little research I'm doing for a play. A character in it is a duke, and I need to know what the polite term his maid, or anyone in the position of service towards him would call him, in the original German. As in, in English, how one would call a lord, "your majesty," or "your lordship," etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
