Many aristocratic families settled in Ireland in the 1600 - 1800 period and inter-married with the established Irish families.
Notable among these were the Rivers family (direct descendants of Mary Queen of Scots) who married into the Storys of Bingfield, Co. Cavan, Ireland.
Rev. Joseph Story of Bingfield, Crossdoney, Co. Cavan married Louisa Rivers daughter of Sir Peter Rivers Baronet. They had eight children - Joseph Story (later J.P.), William John Rivers Story, Emilia Henrietta, Eleonora Martha Sarah, Frances Marianne, Louisa Maria Elizabeth, Caroline Maria, & Agnes Sarah Story.
The Rivers connection ensured that all these children eventually married well - Reids of Runnymede, related to the Napier & Ettrick families - also of Royal Blood ;
- the Bagot Lane connection, - the Carmichael family of Cdr Sir Thomas Gibson-Craig Carmichael, - the Luard family of George Augustus Luard, - the deCourcy-Meade family and into the military family of Lt. Col. John Bean of the Madras Engineers (1856).
The Storys had been married to the famous aristocratic Huguenot family from France - Lanauze, Henry Lanauze's father had settled at Aubawn, Co. Cavan following the Williamite Settlement of Ireland. He married Frances Anne Story of Bingfield (1781), daughter of Rev.Joseph Story and Frances Arabella Sneyd.
This Rev. Joseph Story was married to Sophia Grattan, widow of Dr Henry Grattan of Political fame.
