To add to what you wrote, it is perhaps often forgotten that HRH Prince William of Wales, crrently second in line to the Throne, is now and always has been a commoner. He is a commoner because he is not a nobel; all the titles he has are by way of curtsey. He is the heir to certain peerages, and he will become, in time, at least a duke before he becomes king. That has yet to happen; the title "prince" is his only because his paternal grandmother is Queen, not because the title was created for him. Nothing, legally, keeps him from being elected to the House of Commons
