In a history of Detroit I found that Robert Navarre of Villeroy, France was son of Antoine Francois (listed as a farmer) and Jeanne Pluyette. Robert arrived in Nova Scotia in 1730 and hence to Fort Ponchartrain du Detriot where he was Deputy Governor. His son, Robert Navarre II, became "Royal Notary" and had a firm there at Fort Ponchartain; the title was withdrawn in 1762. Robert II married Louise de Marsac, grand daughter of Sergeant Jacob de Marsac, who had served under Cadillac.
As Antoine Francois Navarre was listed as a "farmer" it appears doubtful he held any titile. Robert II apparently earned the title as Royal Notary through his service, but it was not a hereditary title.
