Classification: Query
Surnames: Gould, Proctor
I am a descendent of William Proctor Gould of Salem, Massachusetts, born October 9, 1793 to Solomon Gould and Betsey Proctor Gould. He was protegee to Congressman John McKee of Alabama and settled in Boligee, Alabama.
I am trying to work up the family tree and discover if Betsey was a descendent of John Proctor of the Salem Witch trials.
John Proctor's sons were:
1. By Elizabeth Thorndike:
A. John Proctor born 28 Oct. 1668
B. Thorndike Proctor born 15 July 1672 in Salem. He married 15 Dec 1697 to Hannah FELTON in Salem. He died 1758 in Danvers, Essex County, Massachusetts
2. By Elizabeth Bassett:
A. William Proctor, born 6 Dec 1674 or 1675. He married Jemima COLLINS 12 Nov 1727 in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts.
[maybe he had a prior wife? Age 52 is old for a first marriage]
B. Samuel Proctor born 11 Jan 1685 died 16 Mar 1765 [sic]
C. Elisha Proctor born 28 Apr 1687 died 11 Sept 1688
D. John Proctor born 27 Jan 1692/1693
I think William Proctor is the best bet, for obvious reasons, but my great-great-great grandfather could have also been named William for an uncle.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. If anyone wants further information on William Proctor Gould, I'll be glad to share.
