Eliphalet Remington Merry was lost at sea on the SS Central America in 1857. He was a California Forty-niner and this was his 3rd trip. I have been able to validate his genealogy, his residence in Tysons Corner, Virginia and other family items. Unfortunately, through all of the books and New York Times articles listing those lost at sea on that "ship of gold", I cannot validate that he was in fact on the ship. I also checked with the Mariner's Museum for any manifests, etc. Does anyone have a reference or other information that I can follow-up on?
