I wonder if anyone can help me; I am working on research for a book about the story of a ship wreck, the loss of the four masted square rigged barque
Garthpool (formerly Juteopolis, built 1891) on 11th November 1929.
All the crew survived, and they had a bit of an adventure on the Cape Verde Islands for several weeks before they were shipped home as
Distressed British Seamen in late November.
Amongst the crew, was my great grandfather,
Christopher Bedford Steel (1907-1943), a passenger on board for the experience of the voyage.
I have so far collected a great variety of archives, articles/documents; I have a great growing photo/art collection
and there's more to be discovered.
I wonder if anyone on here might be related to any of the crew? Or perhaps you know anything about the story?
Here's the full crew list I posted on a sailing site; http://www.startedsailing.com/the-story-of-the-garthpool.htm...
If you do find a relative or know anything about the Garthpool story, please email me at >>
Also, I have a website, if you are interested in following my research; any feedback most appreciated, thanks!www.thegarthpoolproject.webs.com
I looking forward to hearing from you,
All the best,
Bye for now,
