Ref numbers and add last names to Brother's Keeper file

I need to know where to add Ref #'s. I see it talked about but cannot find where to put them in. Also, I wanted to know if there is a faster way to add the last name to a child other than typing it in. In some of the older versions you could hit a special key and it would put it in. I have BK 6.1
