POsting on behalf of girlfriend who is completely fed up with this problem. I have just mailed the Support people so will see what they say. This is what I sent them:
When I click on Web Search Resources I usually get the above message returned. Very occasionally it will connect OK.
1. I am connected to the Internet - I have tried opening another browser window first - makes no difference.
2. I have Windows XPSP2 with IE7 version 7.0.5730.11 and Nortons Internet Security version 9.1.0.33.
3. Windows firewall is disabled and ftm.exe is added to Nortons as a trusted program.
4. I have added
https://ancestry.com,
https://familytreemaker.com,
https://www.ancestry.com,
https://www.familytreemaker.com to the trusted sites in IE7 Internet Options.
5. The Phishing filter is switched off in IE7.
6. Even disabling the entire Nortons suite so there is no firewall makes no difference.
7. I have worked through suggestions on your article 2257 as follows:
Connection is connected
Selecting never dial a connection makes no difference
Disabling startup programs makes no difference
Safe mode with networking does not allow me to connect to the INternet - no connection details present.
FTM.exe is not running in compatibility mode.
8. My broadband provider does not use a proxy server so I cannot try bypassing the proxy for these addresses.
9. I set up a permanent ping to 66.43.22.49 which never had any drop outs - during this I still could not connect.
10. Tracert to 66.43.22.49 completes in 160ms and 19 hops consistently.
11. Nothing in the Windows Event logs.
I am at the end of my tether with this now (as are others I see on the forums). PLease can you tell me what is going on?
Tim
