I clearly DO have an internet connection - I'm using it right now to write this post.
I'm using FTM2008 on Vista.
On the evening of 29 Aug my FTM suddenly changed all the green leaf icons to grey. (see screenshot1)
If I go to the websearch tab it displays "no internet connection". (see screenshot2)
If I click File -> go online - it tells me "can not go online. This computer is not connected to the internet."
However, when I add new people it still manages to find potential matches for them and gives them a grey leaf.
When I hover over this leaf it will say "x source records, x possible family trees".
I have emailed support but haven't received so much as an acknowledgement that my request for assistance has been recieved.
I have closed the file, compacted it, tried a different file, closed the program, tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling it, tried installing the software on my other computer* and same problem. I've even tried bypassing all internet protection and connecting my pc directly to a modem and the problem still exists.
*Other computer is running Windows 2000 Pro, not Vista.
If I go to Help -> Register FTM (as installed fresh on my other computer) I get a pop up telling me "There was a problem connecting to the registration server. Please check your internet connection and try again or close this dialog and register later."
So, what next? The program works in so much as I can build my family tree manually, but then the key features have failed in so much as I can't websearch from it or check out the possible matches it is giving me.
My version number is 18.104.22.1688 but Help -> check for updates tells me that my copy of FTM is up to date.
I was prepared to try this SP3 install again, figuring I wasn't going to be in any worse position.
