Using your example "Wiggens born between 1750-1780" use the filter button on the bottom of the "Index" this pops up the individual selection dialog box. Here you will want to first "filter in" all those with the name that contains "Wiggens" then "filter out" those born before 1750 then "filter out" those born after 1780 and if necessary all those with blank birth dates. You will then be left with those matching the original search criteria "Wiggens born between 1750-1780". This same dialog box appears when building reports or charts.
