Help with NARROWING SEARCH* FTM 2008

I do not know if I am on the correct site for this help, but can someone tell me how to narrow a search for all people in my data base born, for example, 1760-1780? Or maybe all people born in Baltimore, MD? Or all the Smiths born 1800-1835?
My FTM is version 2008.If I am on the wrong board for this, can someone tell me which board I should be on?
